Gwinnett Tech: Fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Anyone applying to nursing school for Fall 2019? I will be starting the first of my 3 prereqs in Jan 2018 and would love to speak with others who are in the same boat.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I am working on my prerequisites now for Fall 2020. Did any of you on this thread actually get into the program this year?

I did as well as a few others I believe. I applied to last years and didn't make it so retook a class for a higher grade and then made it this year.

Yes, accepted to the fall 2019 cohort. Best advice, you need to make A’s in your sciences and nothing less in your other pre-reqs. If you’re a Gwinnett Tech student, use the STEM center and go to open lab. It’s a very competitive program, be ready to put in a lot of time and effort. These aren’t sleeper classes. You’ll have to take the Kaplan entrance exam, study for this! Reading and writing sink most students (subject verb agreement sounds easy, study this). Good luck and be prepared to work. Use the STEM center resources. And find a small group of like minded friends that are dedicated and studios to study with. Talk to upper classmen to determine which science instructors are a good fit for your learning style.

Take time to get involved with student life and meet people. The school has a great culture.

Nothing worth having comes easy.

Thank you guys for your advice. I think I will try first getting into the ADN program and then try the LPN-ADN bridge just to have two options if they will allow it. I am currently an LPN and my GPA is currently 3.89 and so far I only need to take the biology classes!!

Specializes in Pediatrics (urgent care).

Yes, I was accepted to the fall 2019 cohort as well. I agree with the other comments, put MAXIMUM effort into your science pre-reqs (A&P I and II, micro). My instructor said to plan on studying 3 hours per day, 7 days a week for those classes if we wanted to earn an A and he wasn't wrong. For A&P, open lab is essential...I went at least once a week, more often if my schedule permitted. The Kaplan is a very easy test if you know what to expect. Try searching YouTube for study tips. For what it's worth, I didn't find the Kaplan test practice book helpful at all; it was WAY too broad and I ended up wasting time on a lot of topics that weren't on the test. For math, brush up on fractions and decimals if you're rusty. The science portion was heavy on physiology. The reading portion was straight comprehension, but the writing portion was quite subjective, which made it a bit tricky in my opinion. Oh, and for A&P and micro, check out Crash Course and Khan Academy on YouTube. Those channels helped me a lot. Good luck to you!!!! ?

I got in to the Fall 2019 cohort with a 3.67 gpa and I got an 85 on the kaplan. Like the others say, the science prerequisites can be tough but there are a ton of resources to help. I used quizlet and studymate like crazy. All it really takes is effort. The material isn't that hard if you're willing to put in the time.

Congratulations to all of you and thank you for the input. I was thinking the sciences would be easy since I had Med Surg as an LPN but it appears they are still difficult but doable with hard work, I will make sure I keep my schedule flexible with these courses. Thanks for the info on the GPA and KAPLAN I will aim for those numbers.

I am also an LPN and I will be applying for the spring 2020. I was told that the bridge option isn’t as competitive as the traditional route. I’ll be taking my Kaplan at the end of this month and right now my GPA is 3.6 so I’m hoping I get a high Kaplan score. Good luck
