Hello-
I'm thinking of attending this school for there LVN program? I would like to hear from students that attended this school. Is there anyone planning on attending in Jan 2011?
Thanks
Hello Christine2009 and msnisha,I am also thinking of attending this school for the lvn program beginning January 2012. I've already met with Ann, the financial aid office and I am "technically" enrolled. However, after reading some of the threads, I must say I am a little discouraged. Can you please share with me some of your experiences you've had with this school? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
BTW, Christine2009 can you please give me more information about the program that help fund your tuition? Do you know if it's still available?
Jennifer,
I went through WIA which is for people that are or were on unemployment. I do not know your situation, but they still offer the program, but it is a process. I started the process this time last year and had everything in place when school started.
You simply need to go to or call your local East Bay Works Office and inquire about the WIA program. They gave me $5,590 for my tuition and also pay me each month for transportation when I send them my attendence record.
Let me know if you need more info.

Hi Christine, I'm planning to attend Gurnick in January. I wanted to ask you if you knew what the titles of the books were I would need to have for the LVN program. I'm trying to see if i can find the best prices around the internet..
Do you also know what qualifications are needed for the WIA program? Do you have to have been on unemployment (the only thing to qualify you?) or does the program cater to any other people who are not able to afford as much?
Thank you so much in advance!!

As far as the books go, you have to get them through the school. It is included in your tuition.
The books they use for the prereq class are: Memmler's Human Anatomy in Health and Disease and Calculate With Confidence.
Module 1: Fundamental Concepts and Skills for Nursing, Memmler's Human Anatomy in Health and Disease, Calculate with Cofindence, Williams Basic Nutrition and Diet Therapy
Module 2 & 3: Introduction to Medical Surgical Nursing Text and Study Guide, Core Concepts in Pharmacology
Module 4: Foundations in Mental Health Care, Maternity Nursing: An Introductory Text, Pediatric Nursing: An Introductory Text
As far as the WIA program goes, you have to be or have been on Unemployment in order to qualify for the program. I live in Alameda County so Contra Costa County might have different requirements. The best thing to do is to call the office and ask what they require. It is a very lengthy process mind you and I started the process this time last year and recieved approval for the program in April of this year!
HTH!
