i'm currently a cna and the local hospital has an opening in the er called guest relations. I guess you have to be a high school graduate, a cna, know medical terms, good communication skills, and know cpr/first aid. i haven't even been contacted yet so i'm trying not to get my hopes up. But this really seems like something i could do. Does anyone know what this is or heard of such a position? this would certainly be a welcome change from nursing homes as i prepare for nursing school and need flexible hours.

This position sounds like it might be a patient advocate. Whenever their is a
dispute between staff and the patient you try and go in and smooth things over.

In our ER we have a guest relations person there during peak hours - he/she offer drinks, blankets, answer questions, smooths anxious/ornary feelings, facilitate visitors into rooms, etc. They are well loved by the public, sometimes a thorn in our side for us - but really do help. Not a very "medical" position, but if you have some medical knowledge, it would be an asset.

sounds like a "greeter" position to me also-

Go to the ER and ask. It could be anything.
I'd cast my vote with the "greeter" group, but it could also be the unit secretary spot (first one to see the patients as they come in).
In our hospital, guest relations is for the families of patients--nothing to do with patients at all!
Depending on what the position actually is, of course, the hours, required experience and education, and work load will vary.
Let us know! :)

Strange. The last time i heard of the guest relations title was when i (briefly) worked at a hotel.
