Hello! I have currently taken Eng 111 Psy 150 and 241 A & P 165 and communications 110. CNA this month. So far I maybe have 10 pts. What classes other than HUM and A & P 166 do I need and those that were accepted recently around how many points do I need to get accepted? Any advice would be appreciated!!

I wonder what school you are going to attend. i am not familiar with gtcc, but I do know from my experience that I relied heavily upon my placement test scores to get in. How many students do they accept every fall?

No offense, but just a bit of advice...

Every school has their own course listings and nomenclature system. If you're going to toss around course numbers that only students in your particular school knows about; then you're not going to get any responses here unless the forum member happens to be a student at your school. Thus, it's not that people want to ignore you; the way that your question was phrased, it would be impossible to do anything else but ignore you because no one here really knows what you're referring to.

Hello. Good luck in your class work. I agree with the poster who said that "each school has its own course listings". Most students find that the best way to find accurate answers to questions such as "what other courses do I need" is to arrange a meeting with a nursing advisor at your university. As a retired nursing instructor, I have seen a few sad situations in which students unfortunately failed to seek help from nursing faculty members and took some classes which did not "count" toward our curriculum requirements! Best wishes.

I attend Guilford Technical College .. sorry, I'm new to allnurses!!

I agree! Meet with a nursing program advisor to find out what you need to do to better your chances of acceptance. I found out what classes I needed by referring to the website of the colleges I was considering. The specificly list requirements before consideration for the program. I applied for off hour programs (night and weekend) and needed Nutrition, Intro to Psych, Intro to Sociology, Life Span Psych, Biology, Microbiology, A&P 1 and 2, English (writing), Chemistry, Algebra- the last two counted at the highschool level.

Good Luck!:)

Let me tell you.........I graduated from the PN prgram at GTCC in 08. This year I applied for the PN ADN bridge and was rejected with 34 points. If I were you I would take the 165 and 166 BY THEMSELVES. theyre very heavy in points and if you have a full schedule youre less likely to well in them being spread so thin. I would reccomend studying for the TEAS, i went in without studying (thought If i could pass it for the PN i should be able to again-wrong) Fortunetly for you, theres a better chance of getting into the ADN program because they accept like 80 applicants.also dont put all your eggs into one basket, look into FCCC,DCCC and RCC (ashebor and rockingham).Best of luck to you, GTCC offers a great nursing program if youre one of the chosen few

Thanks Optimist! That's the best advice I could have asked for... I also thought about doing PN program because it takes less semesters to complete. How do you like it?

I really liked the PN program. When I graduated I was offered a position with HP Regional and honestly felt I had a better knowledge/skill base than some of my orientation cohorts ( I had to show some of my fellow orientees how to empty foley bags and give basic ADLs) recently graduated from local 4 year schools. They really prepare you for the real world of nursing. In my opinion though if you ever want to be an RN go ahead and go for the ADN program, its much harder to get into the bridge program when youre ready and is just 2 extra semesters. If you do the PN and then go on into the workforce, you may lose the momentum and find it difficult to go back. whatever you do best of luck, since my rejection Im trying to figure out what to do next with my life and wishing i had just did the ADN program when i had the chance.

I am currently in the GTCC ADN program. i will graduate in may 2012(counting the days)

the program is very competitive to get in, but there is no magic number as to how many points you need to get in. it varies per class and per student. i got in with 50 pts, but i know some that got in with 42.. some alternates had 38 pts.. the class before us had much higher points so it all varies. i would agree taking 165 and 166 separate from the nursing program. Plus, i think from experience you reallly need that experience and knowledge from 166 BEFORE taking nursing classes. I didnt think it would make that much difference and some people are getting lost now, since some of our concepts are very in depth and you really need that background and knowledge of patho. ie:iif you dont understand the patho there is no way you will understand that concept. Dont rush it. get all your pre reqs out of the way prior to starting nur 111. Nursing is extremely time consuming and you need every moment that you can get to focus on the nursing information. Good luck to yoU! its a rough and bumpy ride but totally worth it!

I am starting the ADN program at GTCC or DCCC this Fall 11'. I can't pick between the two, any advice/ thoughts? I have only heard the drop out rate is very high at GTCC, which is scary (granite I understand it is everywhere) other then that have no way of picking between the two.

Hi! i am currently in the GTCC program.. i will graduate in may 2012... i can only vouch for GTCC's program.. first of all GTCC has an extremely high pass rate on the NCLEX.. i have heard the DCCC does not have that high rate, however that is going off of heresay. i may be wrong..i personally like the program at GTCC. they have excellent instructors and yes its tough.. yes its stressful, but honestly i went into the program assuming we would lose a ton of people, and actually we havent.. we have lost some, but looking back, its because the majority of those people chose not to put in the effort needed to be successful in the program. you will succeed anywhere as long as you put in the work and time and effort. We started with 77 in the fall 2010.. we are down to around 60 right now and getting ready to head into senior year.. thats pretty good considering we graduate in 2 semesters.. Good lucK to you!
