GTC 2011?

Published

Is anyone applying for Gwinnett Tech's Fall 2011 RN program? I submitted my application back in October (I really wanted to have enough time in case anything happened). I'm still waiting on the initial letter about the meeting for the entrance exam. Does anyone know when we're supposed to get that letter? I know the application due date wasn't too long ago (Jan. 15th) and with the snow, things are probably backed up a bit, but for some reason I thought we should already have word by now.

Specializes in ICU.

I wanted to join in the discussion. I took the Kaplan exam a few days ago! Yeah, first leg of the trip over. Now I get to wait nervously for a letter. If I don't get in I will try for North GA. Any other GTC hopefuls out there?

I'll be applying this fall, but for 2012 admission....will also be applying at ATC and N GA.

I'll be taking entrance exams for ATC and N GA in just a few months.

I have taken 8 prerequisites so far with gwinnett tech and still have microbiology and english 1102 to do. I've made A's in all of my classes. Can anyone tell me anything about my chances of getting accepted into the program. I love the school and I don't want to go to any other school. With more than 1,000 applications I'm just wondering, does GTC have a quota for students who don't take their prerequisites there considering the number of pre-nursing students they already have? Just curious, because I'm trying to get a friend to apply. Thanks

Hi Blessed78. I am currently in my first year in the ADN program at GTC. Congratulations on your success so far! That's excellent. As of last year and I assume this year.... GTC takes your GPA and counts it as half of your total "#" and they take your score on your entrance exam and count that as the other half of you total "#". So... if you have a GPA of 4.0 for example you would have 50 out of 50. Then when you take your entrance exam you would have ___ out of 50 for a total score of XX out of 100. They do not take into consideration where you took your prereqs. They take the top 60 people based on GPA and entrance exam into the interview process. It's scary, but actually pretty fun because you know that you are one step closer and that you are looking at many of your possible future classmates. The interview process is really for us as much as it is for the faculty. It is an opportunity to get a better picture of what to expect and what is to come. After that process, they notify the top 40 people. If anyone does not accept, then they continue down the list until they have 40 students who have accepted.

I love GTC and am so happy that I am in our nursing program. I wish you and everyone else on here the very best of luck. I hope that this information helps. I'm sorry if I have made it more confusing. Please let me know and I will try to do better to explain.

Everyone seems really quiet here this year. Last year's GTC nursing class seemed to talk so much more!

hey...

i'm applying into the fall 2011 program and wanted to know some of the gpa's and kaplan scores of people who are actually in the nursing program. just too anxious to wait on a letter and need to reassure myself! :nurse:

There's a thread that several people listed this in. I wanna know when we're supposed to get our interview invitations. I've been checking my email multiple times every day. It's starting to scare me.

hello olivia,

The last test date for the Kaplan was on March 23rd. I would give it a week or two before I started worrying about getting an interview invitation because they have to get the scores together and choose there 60 applicants out of the hundreds that took the test. I totally share your excitement and enthusiasm tho. It would be so awesome if I could go to this school. They do clinicals at my job and it's only 3 minutes away! crossing my finger!

how did you do on the kaplan? just wondering....:D

Yeah, I was just thinking they might get it done quicker since they said in the meeting they were aiming for doing interviews the first week of April. But I guess they have a bit more to look at, even though the scores can be instantly ranked from top to bottom by a simple spreadsheet.

I got a 90 on my Kaplan (I thought I posted that elsewhere in here, but I forget). I was annoyed because I bought the book and the test was NOTHING like the book. I'm happy because it was easier, but annoyed because I didn't study A&P at all (assuming there would be chemistry and physics per the study guide) and that's what really dropped my score. It was surprisingly my lowest section (got an 80 on it, grrrrr). Oh well though, I guess.

yeah... that is true. they did say that but i'm not gonna worry myself over it too much because i know how slow the process can be and it will turn you into a maniac. btw, i got an 85 on the kaplan. i was really upset about that study guide too because i didn't put any effort into the a&p. i was too busy working out physics and chemistry equations. the math was super easy as well as the comprehension sections. i made stupid mistakes on the writing section second guessing myself. however, the proctor said that an 85 was really good, so you're 90 is even better. i'm sure you will get an interview. is your gpa okay?

I think my overall GPA is 3.6 (I have all the GE's needed also). In the core 6 classes I think it's a 3.8 (I have 5 A's and a B in English). The proctor did seem surprised at my score and said it was really good...as if she doesn't see that score much. That made me feel good, but I'm still just not too sure about it. I don't believe anything until I actually see it.

trust me olivia... a 90 is super! i have a friend who i consider very intelligent and she made an 82. i dont think this test was really set up to get 100s although it would be awesome if someone did. i say that based on the fact that i took the nln and got a 97 without studying. plus, they wouldnt say that you have to make at least a 65 on it although those applicants wont be considered if they didnt think that the 80s and 90s range wasnt great. when i took the nln, an 85 is what they considered although they only took test grades higher than a 94. so i did make the cut into that school, but i gave up my seat because i really want to go to gtc so i have given up a lot. i promised myself that i wouldnt check my email but 2x a week so i wouldnt drive myself crazy so if letters go out before i check, keep me posted! relax tho.... you're going to do great! i know it!
