>2 Yrs RN still no hospital job-should I try volunteering...?

Published

I'm two years into it, have been doing SNF's since I got licensed over two years ago, I'm not happy, I dislike the huge workloads, and the accompanying sore legs, feet and other personal physical ailments that come with it. I know the hospital is busy too, but I have friends who work there and tell me it's actually much easier physically when you compare it to a nursing home. I am in my 40's, and I know I'm not very marketable due to my age. Therefore I'm wondering if taking a job as a VOLUNTEER in a hospital would perhaps be wise in terms of helping me land a hospital job? I'd love to move out of state and would if could, in a heartbeat. But unfortunately, I'm tied down to my current location due to my family responsibilities, for at least the next year. If anyone has thoughts they could share or experience with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any doctors at your SNF who are familiar with your work ethic and seem to appreciate what you do? If so, you might want to ask them if they would be willing to recommend you at a hospital(s) where they are on staff. Most likely, a connection is all that you need and you probably have un-utilized connections right there!

My suggestion is just to apply to hospitals in your area. Make sure your certifications are current. Good luck.
