I'm actually an RN here in San Antonio and am active duty USAF.
There is also a locality supplement for RNs here that's quite good.
Please keep in mind the federal furloughs are beginning in the next week; this may put a snag in your job search. I also know there are various hiring freezes in place for an unannounced amount of time, so even if a job is listed as open they may not be able to hire anyone to fill it until directed by the Pentagon.
As I was saying, there is currently a hiring freeze in effect in many areas of civilian Federal employment. I wouldn't be surprised if it took a year to get hired. But I'd apply anyway and at least get the process started.
(They can advertise for the positions whether there's a freeze in place or not, and yes, that seems unfair. I agree with you.)
I worked with a lady who was an LVN, we were contractors for 6yrs but the contract was coming to a end. They told us that they had 2 GS positions. It took them more then a year to put us in those slots & we already worked there. Background, finger prints labs everything done. So yes I would start applying. Good luck!! This happened October 2012.

Hey everyone. My husband has orders to relocate to Lackland AFB and I was looking into working on base. The thing is I don't get this GS yadda yadda stuff on USAJOBS. Is there a website that breaks this down with the payscale? Also, his report by date is 30 September... Do you think it's too early to start applying? I heard it could take up until 1 yr to get hired. Thanks in advance!
