So I recently applied for a job for a small facility, and made it through all three rounds of interviews...They all seemed to go really well, and the last one was casual and easy going, the DON making it sound as though I had the job and all of this was formality...
This was on Friday, 7/30, and the DON said she was going to send off an email "right then to HR" and if I didn't hear from HR by Wednesday 8/4, that I should call HR.
I called her on Thursday, got VM- no call back by end of day Friday
Called today, got VM AGAIN- no return call
***** In the past, these gaps can go either way- either I didn't get the job, or I did and they are being slackers.....any thoughts? I am going NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are at least farther along than I am! If I were in your scrubs, I'd just call the DON.

I agree with 2ndwind. What makes me mad about the situation is that there only three positions open and fifty applicants. It is a shame. I wish you good luck and keep placing applications in also.

Did you try calling HR? That's who she told you to call.

Here's my way of working: Call once a day every day until you hear from them.
Right now is prime time to go on vacation. My director's taken at least one or two extended ones this year. This makes it difficult if not impossible at times.
If you don't hear anything in approx a week from this person, find the HR number (call a unit, operator, etc and ask for HR) and say, I'm having difficulty getting ahold of the director and was wondering my status for the job.
Finally, it's been my experience that if you've not gotten calls back or promises have been made and not kept (and you've not even started, yet) RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN. Think about it. They're short staffed and thought you were an excellent candidate. Instead of rewarding you with a prompt call back, their lax views/personalities are not calling you back. What does this mean for you? Well THAT is the person you go to in order to file a complaint, send ideas to to make the unit better, etc. If they're not calling you back right now, I can only IMAGINE what kind of response you'll be getting when the time to get things changed comes for you.

Keep following up, keep looking. Know whatever happens is the best possible thing for you, and believe it.
Its an employer's market, and they get their funds cut off every day.
Thanks to all who replied!- I got a call on Tuesday after leaving a VM for HR telling her I had another job offer and needed to know by the end of the week- it only took her ten minutes to return that call
She promised she would call the DON first thing in the AM and get back to me by the end of the day Wednesday
Got no phone call yesterday, but just got one this morning offering me a job at a TCU I had also interviewed for-
So, Oh well, screw 'em, their loss!
