I've been on the Grossmont waiting list for a year and a half now. Estimated start date is fall of 2007...anyone else?? I mainly see posts from people in programs or people still taking pre req's. Looking for others in limbo here in san diego like myself.
New Grad! Congrats!!!! You waited a VERY long time for this moment - it's obvious you worked hard to get it done - KUDOS!
How come they aren't starting you until Jan? Are you going through some sort of training?
Were you very nervous about your boards? I know stupid question:rolleyes:
When I look at the NUR120 Intro class, it appears they enroll more people in the fall then spring. What gives? Everytime I ask the nursing office what my status is - they stick to the 3-year thing. Is it really that bad or do they cushion it a little bit?
Thanks for sending a little hope my way:roll
June,
Hang in there... it will be worth it. Are you trying to get into the day or weekend/evening program? The waiting list shortens as people drop out or defer, so they probably give you the worst case scenario in terms of waiting time where they assume that everyone will take an available spot once their name comes up.
The new grad programs start in January or February for most hospitals. Usually, there are different start dates during the year, most likely on a quarter or semester basis to correspond with graduation dates. Training is the first 12 weeks where you're in new grad preceptorship. Then they throw you to the lions... j/k. According to the clinical educator at Sharp, they assess your skills to function independently about 10 weeks into your preceptorship and determine if you're ready.
I took NCLEX 6 1/2 weeks after graduation. I was extremely nervous about boards, but was more of a wreck while waiting for the results! I felt like I failed miserably, but two days later, my name was on the board of registered nursing with a license number.
I don't really know why they enroll more in the fall. It could just be that traditionally, since the school year starts in the fall, more people sign up for classes. It could also be that the staff has to teach more advanced classes in the spring, so there are less offerings for the fundamentals classes.
Hope that helps! Hang in there...
I recently got a letter inviting me to take the Teas:yeah:(on wait list since june 06) has anyone else got one? march 14th 08 is when mine arrived. I would love some info on what the pass score is for the teas because they won't tell you! Has anyone taken it recently? how was it? thanks so much.
I received one last week, too. I already took the TEAS so I'm waiting to hear from them after May 1st. I have been waiting (and waiting) since Jan 2006.
The passing score for the TEAS is 67%. The information is on the student handbook, which can be found on the nursing dept. website.

The info is on page 21.
I bought the study guide and I feel that it helped.
Hi there. I also just got my letter to take the TEAs but my letter said that passing does NOT guarantee me a spot on either the fall 08 or spring 09 sections.I've been on the waiting list since Aug 06.
that's exactly what my letter said last spring & i ended up by getting into the program last fall. i think they kind of say that just to hedge their bets just in case. GOOD LUCK!! :)
I just got my letter today stating that I have been placed on the waitlist at Grossmont as of 4/18/2008 and that the wait is approximately 3 to 4 years OR MORE!!!
WOW!! I was even told verbally by staff yesterday that the wait was 2-3. This is scary. Now I really hope to get into National...
I go to grossmont, GO TO MERIC, its not worth waiting the 3-4 years, you could graduate from one of the private schools in less than 2, pay back your loans and be making money by the time grossmont calls you, thats just my opinion. grossmont is a good school, good teachers, but a nurse is a nurse. alot of our instructors went to meric themselves, that ought to tell you something.
well, FYI, you CAN petition for BSN. Meric nurses also have alternative options such as National, University of Pheonix, and others. Look, I am graduating from Grossmont this year and I know I have instructors (theory and clinical) who went to MERIC who now have their BSN, and/or masters degrees.
If you can afford to wait to go to grossmont, by all means do. But if you are like alot of people who have families to support go to whatever school will get you there fast, Concorde offers an LVN program then the LVN to RN stepup. I get sick of hearing grossmont, sdsu, city college student, bag on MERIC college. WE ALL TAKE THE SAME BOARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey June,
I was on the waiting list for 2 1/2 years (since summer of 2003) before I was able to get a spot in the weekend/evening program. I was also told that it was a three year waiting list. I got a spot in the day program about 1 1/2 years later but had to defer a couple of times because I work full time during the day. I finally started January 2006.
I just graduated in August, passed boards in September, and got a new grad position at Sharp Memorial's transplant/stepdown unit starting in January. It was tough to wait, even tougher to work and go to school at the same time, but definitely worth it.
While you're waiting, be sure you do your GE's. A couple of people in my class can't take boards yet because they were missing a PE class or an English class, or whatever.
Feel free to send me a mesesage if you have any other Grossmont questions.
