Greater Lowell Tech

Published

Hi all,

I am new to this site and new to nursing - hopefully! I am applying to the LPN program at GL Tech evening division. Is anyone else here going or has gone to that program? I am taking the NET in June (the last test date) and I just ordered study materials. I have to pass it because it is the last time they offer it!!! I am 40yrs old and completely changing my career so I am hoping I am not the oldest in the program if I get in. So send out a hello if you are going to the program at Lowell Tech.

Thanks

Susan

HEY!!!! There were a lot of people there...my goodness...you figure that many people attended each testing session..and there i believe only 40 slots open?? So the math for me I had a bit of a mind freeze but agree was not bad. The English oh man...The subject content was MUCH easier than I thought it would be but I agree I had to go back in each passage to try to find the answer. The essay I think I did ok...I wish I was able to write in pencil had about 7 crossouts due to grammatical errors or me just zoning out... I honestly do not know how I did...65 is passing right or is it 75???

4 weeks..ughhhh....

Ok so too funny um do you have a coach bag with pink trim on top? I think I was right next to you!! I was wearing bright blue sweater shirt! HAHAHA I was looking around and honestly didn't say anything coz you look young!! LoL

I do not know what to do with myself now..I spent last night thinking about test....4 weeks..ya...lol

Prisi! Oh Good luck on interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...There must have been 50 people at me and susans session...Im just thinking step 1 pass the NET ..but I cant help but think is there a spot for me anyways?? Will I have a high enough score? I went to school for dental assisting but that was 7-8 years ago! And that is all my professional medical experience I hold. Personally I have taken care of people my whole life...sick family members that had cancer and whatnot...Soooo I dont know..only time will tell..so 3 weeks huh? 3 is better than 4 but still too far away!!! I just hate it because I feel like I did OK but know there is a good chance I did not make the grade per say and seeing that long expected letter saying I failed will be awful....

ok Im laughing now....talk about over thinking it huh?

I am a very impatient person can ya tell? My mind creates mountains out of anthills as I wait!

oha nd PLEASE tell us how your inteview goes? You will do great! :D

JMarie - That was me with the coach bag!!!! OMG that is too funny that we sat right next to each other. I did think to myself "hmmm I wonder if that is JMarie" but I didnt want to say "Do you post to allnurses.com" because then if it wasnt you I would look like a crazee- I loved your burberry!!!! I saw you writing the essay and it looked like you wrote a lot so good for you!!!! I couldnt believe how many people were there and the fact that so many seemed to not follow the directions with the director calling out to them!!! I totally agree about the subject content being easy to read but I thought there were a lot of trick questions. I forget what we are supossed to score for the reading - I'll have to go back to the GL website to see. Thanks for thinking I look young - you made my day!!!! I was glad to see a few people who looked older so I dont think I was the oldest one there - but there were a few in scrubs so do you think that they get first preference?

Prisi - Good Luck with your interview - I am sure you will do fine - Positive thoughts coming your way. Let us know how it went.

HAHHAHAA TOO funny!!!! Same here didnt want to sound nutso! LOL

Oh my I know ..about people not paying attention..hey did you see that one girl leave during middle of testing? I wonder if she just left on her own or if she was asked to leave? I saw the people in scrubs and was thinking exactly what you asked...If they pass then yes coz they do prefer if youre already in the heathfield... We need to think positive...coz if they didn't pass the test and that is a possibility then better for us! That sounds awful..but I am rooting us on ..aka the people that need a life change that just need a chance!

Hi,

Congrats on taking the test and it sounds like you both did well.

When I went in for my interview it was very informal. The interview consisted of Mr. Yavarow discussing the program, payment options and then made sure I had sent in my transcripts, references and a brief paper about my intent. He told me that another woman makes the final decisions and he also said that they accept approx. 10 people from each testing session for a total of 80 people (40 day and 40 night). That was pretty much it! I left feeling like I didn't even have a chance to talk about myself and my goals. :D

Keep us posted on how your results and interviews go and I look forward to meeting you all soon.

Best of luck!!!

I forgot to mention that I have no medical experience at all, so this will all be new to me!

ok so basically I am going for day session ...so what you are saying is its 5 people per session....so out of 50 people...my chance is I have to be one of those 5......my lord. Never really broke it down before so reality is setting in a bit...my goodness I feel like it has been a week already!...

Thanks for the info Keke.....JMarie - I am freaking out. Its hard not to think about it but basically I have everything riding on getting accepted. I can not wait another year to re-apply.

Keke - If you dont mind me asking.....Did you have a great high school transcript and did you have any college transcripts? I did good in high school but not so much in college and I never finished. I know that Mr yavarow said to include college transcripts but I dont know if that will hurt or help me. I was planning on explaining how different I was then (prob over 15 yrs ago) than now, but you said someone else is the one who accepts/rejects? I dont think that is fair since we are not even meeting that person. What do you guys think about me includung the college transcripts?

Thanks to everyone who has replied to all of my questions!!! It is great that we have this message board - I dont know what I would do if I had no place to vent!

Hi,

I wasn't a great student in H.S.,. I wouldn't even say I was a good one.:D I did take college courses and did okay.

I can relate to wanting to explain myself in the interview process. I felt the exact same way. I had so much riding on this. Here I am forty years old and doing a complete change of careers. I felt like on paper I looked like a weak applicant and felt that if I could meet with and talk with someone they would see my determination. I never had a chance to talk much about myself and my situation but who knows maybe that was just an off day. Prisi is having her interview tomorrow and maybe her experience will be different.

As far as submitting your college transcripts....that is a tough one. I think if you passed the classes with a C or better I would submit them.

While you are waiting for your results get your 3 references and your letter ready (if you haven't already) so that when you have your interview they will have everything they need to make their decision. I mailed in my references and my letter so that they would have it to look over before I got there.

Good luck and PRISI let us know how your interview goes.

Susan- I know what you mean. Same here - If I do not make it into the program I will have to sell my house and in todays market is somethng i do NOT want to have to do...

I do not know what to say in regards to your college transcripts- I know what you mean High school I did poorly in Physical education hahaha I hung out with the nurse during gym class and talked to her! And in college my math shot me down so bad because I tried 1 class 4 times...It is quite embarrassing honestly. I say if we make it to where we are getting interviewed I am counting my blessings and like keke said showing your true self and your determination accounts for alot.

Prisi GOOD LUCK!

Keke- 1 question did they say when you would be notified after interview in regards to time- about whether or not youve been accepted? thanks again!

OKAYYY!!! So I went on the interview today and it was long and very informative!!!

They just basically tells you everything about the program. From how mandatory attendance is to how costly the program is and everything in between!! Needless to say competition at this point is FIERCE and that's why there are so many people taking the tests. They start testing in December and hardly anyone applies that early making it easier (somewhat) to get accepted at that point.

And he mentioned that they only have 18 slots left and about 50 interviews to go!!

And he also very much stressed the fact that since competition is so insane, that people who don't make it in this year should really try again next year. Not getting in doesn't mean you're not good enough, just that others are more qualified. He was very nice about it, not like a jerk or anything.

So I'm crossing every finger and every limb in my body and hoping for the very best outcome!!!
