Dear RN hopefuls
On Friday I spoke with the nursing program counselor at the nursing school I went to and graduated from in 2006. She told me about a new program they have. Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore Wisconsin, has a 4 year, very part time ADN-RN nursing program that is run in the evening and weekends for people who must work full time. There is plenty of CNA work in the area and housing is VERY cheep in the area. Schools for your kids are among the best in the nation. The program is very inexpensive for WI residents, the whole program cost about $6500. You would have to pay out of state tuition for the first 6 months until you could establish residency. There is no waiting list for the program. here is the web site:
www.swtc.edu
They also have a regular 2 years ADN program. The counselor told be that the waiting list is about 6-12 months, but that quite a few people get in faster than that.
The school is located in a very small town in southwest Wisconsin but larger towns, including Madison, are not far away. The school is NLN accredited and I feel I received a good basic nursing education there. I now work in the SICU of a large level I trauma center.
Speaking as a n RN who works in a unit with 17 RN openings and is working too much overtime it makes me sick that so many nursing schools have such long waiting lists that fully qualified RN hopefuls are turned away by the thousands.
Good Luck!
I forgot to mention that the whole nursing program except Micro, A&P 1&2, clinicals and skills labs is available online. Go to http://www.etechcolleges.com
It lists all the online classes offered by all 16 schools in the Wisconsin technical college system (Wisconsin calls community colleges technical college). All classes transfer from any technical college to any other no questions asked.
