Great News!!!!

Hey everyone-

Got great news yesterday afternoon. My orientation will get to continue for the full 6 weeks. I am so RELIEVED!!! :) :) :)

I hadn't really said anything to the other nurses where I work about what was going on with my orientation/preceptorship being cut in half, well, they found out and did they ever protest!! They were like so supportive when I finally told them that I was afraid that I wasn't ready and they agreed. I spoke with my supervisor last night b/f I left work. but unbeknownst to me, the charge nurse on my shift called her at home b/f I could talk to her. I was so proud at that moment to be in the nursing profession. It kind of showed me that for all the bi***ing and moaning going on b/t them at times, they really support one another...................... :yelclap:

I was on my "own" yesterday w/ 4 total care pts which wasn't bad b/c it was pretty peaceful on the rest of the unit, it was the little things like "troubleshooting" pumps, how each individual ivp opens, ivs, cryomachines, etc that had me at my wits end. I lost it and just could not help myself, I tried in vain not to let it out, but, I started crying. Thank goodness it was in front a nurse that I had worked w/ as a tech on the rehab unit and not my charge nurse. I was trying not to look like a "wuss" (sp) in front of my peers. I will do at least my six months on the unit, as long as there are no problems or putting my license in jeapordy then I think I may try to switch units if I need to, if not I will stick with the unit I am on. I love the pace of MS. They were really enouraging yesterday and today when I worked and everyone was asking me if things were going ok. I really felt like a part of the "team". I am going to bring donuts or take muffins or something like that the next shift to say thanks to them for lifting me up.

Today went well for me. I got the same nurse that I had the first day, which, at first I thought was kind of "gruff" but after working with her again today, she is really growing on me and learned tons from her today, esp., time management skills. We had 6 starting out and I d/c three so I really got to be a "nursing school" nurse with teaching, talking etc. Got to put in an NG tube (1st one since last November) so that was pretty wild.

Hey! That is great news that you'll get the whole 6 weeks of orientation as promised! That is so awesome that the nurses you work with are that supportive of you! :) Sounds like a great place to work.

I'm glad to hear that they extended your orientation!! Keep your chin up, you are doing a great job!! It's nice to hear that you are working in a supportive environment! BTW, don't ever feel like a wuss for crying. It's natural to feel overwhelmed. Keep up the great work - and have a happy 4th!
