Anyone else doing the RN to BSN program at GCU?
Did you ever take any breaks in between classes? And what hours did you work? 5-8hrs shifts or 3-12hr shifts? Thanks for your advice.
Hi jjmerc. The only break I took was the mandatory Christmas break which was 2 weeks. With student loans I believe you can take breaks between classes - I think 2 weeks, but not sure - like Flames suggested, check with your counselor. I just wanted to get it done. Took me 14 months. I worked 3-4 12 hour shifts a week 7p - 7a. Not too bad. You just have to watch your time management. I do not have young kids at home, so that was much easier. Husband and 2 older children (18 and 22) who were very supportive and left me alone when I was in "writing mode" :)
Best of luck.
I recommend one starts or joins a FB group.....You can find valuable info such as good/bad profs and help each other out..as some profs take awhile to answer questions. There was a good/bad prof list floating around on here...but i don't think it was that reliable. I had 1 prof on the "avoid" list and she was fine.....I think some got put on that avoid list as they didn't give that person a perfect score!!
Flames9_RN, what fb group would have that list?
jj_mercI am currently in my second class and I have decided to take 2 week breaks in between classes. I work full time and i was finding myself always mentally beat. Once I get the hang of the routine i'll probably go back to no breaks.
Hi Angela,
Im about to end my second class and I feel you. I have a friend who is taking 60 days off. Doing an essay every week and working full time job is hectic. There is no way I am going to double up on classes either. The struggle is real!! í ½í¸¢í ½í¸¢í ½í¸¢í ½í¸¢ Lol

Hi jjmerc. The only break I took between classes was the required 2 week break at Christmas. I worked night shift (7p - 7a), 36 - 48 hours a week, 12 hour shifts. It was very doable as long as you are organized with your time. Do not wait until the day before, or in sometimes the day of, when a project is due. I know some work well under that kind of pressure, but not me. I was usually done with my projects by atleast the Friday before the Sunday due dates.
Best of luck.
