Grand Canyon University RN to BSN

Anyone else doing the RN to BSN program at GCU?

I never doubled up, but I'm a slacker, lol I didnt work for most of the program, and was in no hurry to complete the program. If one is a decent writer, you can get through the work pretty easily. usually took me part of a day to complete a paper....I would do both of my Discussion questions (DQs) right away and get it over with. Its really up to you on how much you want to learn. One could complete a class and for the most part not do any of the readings. Ensure you look at the RUBRIC for each assignment as thats what the prof grades on. A few times not all the required info was on the instruction page! I used the KISS method...keep it super simple....got me a 4.0 and learned a few things on the way. I know at least 2 students that were able to Double up right away....but most wont allow it until the completion of a few classes. GL

Awesome!!! Thanks for the advice!!!!

I recommend one starts or joins a FB group.....You can find valuable info such as good/bad profs and help each other out..as some profs take awhile to answer questions. There was a good/bad prof list floating around on here...but i don't think it was that reliable. I had 1 prof on the "avoid" list and she was fine.....I think some got put on that avoid list as they didn't give that person a perfect score!!

Just wanted to ask if it is ok to double up classes?

Yes, I have done it from the get-go - I started my first class on 2/27 and my Capstone ends 10/29. I have a 4.0 so far.

Which classes would you recommend to double up on?

Currently taking 410 and 440 together, I think they would have been better to do with other classes as they are both pretty straightforward. I took 429 and 430 together, no problem. Took 433 and 451 together - if you take 433 with another class, just make sure you've done your research before starting the class. Read through these forums. I didn't and it made it stressful. I took 427 and 434 together, it was fine but I'd probably do 410 or 440 with 427 instead. Taking ethics alone just because that's how it worked out. Capstone has to be taken by itself.

Thank you for you advice!!! I really appreciate it!!!

I just submitted my last assignments for the Capstone class! I worked full time throughout the program. I did not double up any classes as it just would not have worked out well for my schedule. The group projects are a pain, but not deal breakers in my opinion. I took some advice from Flames and just took the lead on each project I was in - most do not want to be the lead and time gets wasted trying to figure it out. Yes, there can be slackers in the groups, but if it becomes a big issue let your instructor know. The 10 week Capstone class is quite confusing during the first 2 weeks while trying to figure out exactly what it is they are asking for. Just ask questions, and ask for examples to help give you an idea how to approach a project. My instructor was very good about responding to questions, was very helpful, and seemed to want to make sure that you were going to be able to complete the class.

As with all online programs, you will get out of it what you put into it.

Did you ever take any breaks in between classes? And what hours did you work? 5-8hrs shifts or 3-12hr shifts? Thanks for your advice.

taking breaks.....how long of a break u take will depend if ur paying out of pocket or have student loans. I paid out of pocket. I usually took no breaks between classes..finish Sunday..start the new 1 Monday......but I did take a few breaks, think the longest time was like 4 or 5 months!!
