Grand Canyon University ABSN

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! Has anyone heard of Grand Canyon University's accelerated BSN program? It just launched this year, and was wondering if anyone is applying to it? ABSN - two locations: Sun City and Tuscon.

thank you so much! This helps a ton. Goodluck on level 2!

Hello all!

I’m currently taking two pre reqs right now at GCU. I should start the ABSN program in January of 2022. Still have a lot of time and probably too soon but was wondering if anyone else is also starting in January.  I’m from SoCal and planning on moving out there by the fall or early Winter near Phoenix. Any advice on where I can find roommates? Also, if anyone is currently working while in the program, is it doable?

Hi everyone! I hope this thread is still active. I am currently stuck between 2 programs, one of which I have already been accepted too, that is cheaper but only an ASN program. Anyone have any advice? Is this program worth it?

Is the ASN a hybrid program (all online minus lab/clinics) or a traditional program(actually getting lectures)?

As far as working, I don’t recommend. I work and regret going to work every day I go. The DQs take a ton of time, and the exams start piling up. They also have last minute scheduling things that can cause you to choose between work and school if you can’t find coverage. At least I’ve had that issue because I have to make my schedule 8 weeks in advance and cross my fingers that an exam or clinical or something doesn’t land on that day. I also have kids though so I’m balancing a lot of different roles and it is overwhelming. Maybe if you could find a VERY flexible job that is cool with schedule changes and you studying/doing homework and that’s your only other commitment, I guess it’s doable but if you could get away with not working I’d forego a job. Even if you snagged a job like that, I don’t think you’d be able to swing enough hours to cover rent.

Thanks for replying! For now I’m staying home and just trying to save up as much as I can before I move out there. I was hoping to work as a CNA just picking up per diem shifts. I will be on my own and have to work ? the program sounds intense! The last minute scheduling doesn’t sound appealing LOL what days do you usually have clinical/exams? I thought it would be a set schedule.

it varies. Exams are scheduled throughout the week. And they proctored.

clinicals are different for everyone. You are divided in 6-7 groups. Varies from Thursday thru Saturday. Then you also have in person class lab once a week.

it’s doable if you know how to prioritize and time management skills.

Anyone know the policy on rescheduling exams and/or clinicals? I'm definitely not ~planning on missing any, but what of you're sick, or some big life thing comes up? I know some programs have really tough policies on this so I'm just curious.

Hope ya'll have a great weekend. ?

Hey guys,

Does level one only do 32 hrs of clinicals? That just seems like such a small amount.

Hi,

looking to apply to the Tucson location. Any tips from anyone? and recommendations on areas to move to in Tucson?

I would be moving from San Diego. Programs are so competitive out here and getting worse. ?

Hi!

I also came from San Diego. And started the program in May. I didn’t go to Tucson tho. I’m not familiar with the area. And tbh, it’s not a very good city. But that’s just my opinion.

goodluck to you!

Hello,

I'm from socal and I'm conditionally admitted into the Tucson Spring 2022 program. I'm debating whether or not I should pay 1k to take the pre-req religion course because I'm hesitant about attending the program. It's only regionally accredited and it's suspicious that there's no competition to get into the program. For those that are currently in the program, would you say you're set up for success?
