Hi, has anyone received an invitation from Grady to interview for their January/February 2019 Cohort? I received an email about a month ago and have not heard back.

Apartments by the hospital are pretty pricey so I chose to stay away from Downtown Atlanta. I live near Stone Mountain at East Perimeter Point apartments. I totally recommend that you look into it. They reviews might be questionable (like most apartments here) but it's all subjective. It's a beautiful gated apartment complex and the cost is reasonable. And if you tell them that you work at Grady, they'll waive your application fee ? My only complaint is that they never answer the phone. Let me know f you guys have any other questions regarding apartment hunting. I've definitely done the research so feel free to ask. Best of luck! ?
Thanks I’ll check it out. I live in Norcross now, and I will be working nights so the traffic going in and out of the city for me is going to be terrible. I’ll check it out thanks!

Has anyone started or gone through the residency program at Grady? I will be starting Athens Tech in the fall and will graduate in 2021. I am interested in a nurse residency program and just trying to get an idea of the different ones out there and what people have liked, learned, and disliked about them.

Are the differentials added on during residency or is it just that flat rate of $24.68?
My offer was for mother/baby. How do you like the unit. Be brutally honest. How is the staff, patients, charge nurses? Do you get floated to L&D, ante partum, NICU?
How is scheduling? Is it daytime 9 to 5 for the first couple of weeks or do you automatically start at nights? Does it vary between days and nights?
I have a trip that was planned prior to being accepted, will they work with me with this or should i cancel it? The cohort starts august and the trip is the end of december into january.
How are holidays and weekends. Is it every other weekend/holiday? For example, if I was to work christmas would i get new years off?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm trying to get as much info as possible because im relocating from another state and im trying to make sure i transition smoothly but they are so hard to get in contact with to ask these questions. Thank you in advance!!
Hey hun. The weekend differentials are added t o the $24.68. However, if I'm not mistaken, residents aren't able too work the night shift until after they've completed their 3 month orientation. Even then, you will have to be oriented for 2 weeks during the night.
Congrats on the Mother/Baby position! Landing a position on this unit isn't easy. So many people apply and don't get hired. Honestly, I like working on the MB unit. The women, particularly the day shift, are pretty welcoming and supportive. But you definitely have to earn your respect as a nurse around here but as every unit, that takes time. You won't be floating to L&D and NICU but you'll be floating to Antepartum and the Nursery.
Scheduling is from 7a-7p but by the time you give report it's about 7:30. After two weeks you'll be working the schedule of your preceptors. But for the first 2 weeks you'll pretty much be working 8a-4:30p. A lot of the times they let you out early.
I wouldn't cancel the trip. They'll work with you but you would have to talk to your Educator. By that time you will probably be on your own so rearranging your schedule and taking PTO will be a lot easier.
Residents aren't allowed to work holidays until they are own their own which is typically after 3 months. But yes after then it's every other holiday (i.e if you work Thanksgiving, you'll be off for Christmas). As far as weekends, most of the time you will be working at least one weekend day. You'll know your schedule no more than 4-5 weeks in advance. I really wish we had an "every other weekend" schedule but unfortunately, that's not the case.
Good luck with the move. I'm happy to help. And welcome to the MB unit ?

Is that somthing that all the residents who got mother/baby get to do? Did you have separate preceptors for each floor? That's a huge jump from mother/baby to ER! Thanks, again!
No worries! Orientation was for 4 weeks on each unit. Mother/Baby is the only unit that is required to do this I believe. It makes things slightly harder as you only have 4 weeks be oriented (which is nothing considering that you only work 3 days a week), while the other resident have the whole16 weeks to get familiar with their unit. And yes, I had separate preceptors. Fortunately all the units are on one floor. ER is definitely a big jump but that was my first choice. I recently reconsidered transferring so early into the program so I will be staying on the MB unit. What unit will you be working on?
