Graduated 3 years ago, now I’m considering taking the NCLEX

Published

Hey everyone due to personal circumstances I was not able to take the NCLEX right after graduation in November 2016. I am in a more stable place in my life and I have recently been thinking about taking the NCLEX and wanted to know if anyone has been through the same experience as me and am I even allowed to take my boards so long after graduation. I live in CA right now. I would appreciate any tips and tricks for studying as well ! Thank you

Thanks so much for your advice I greatly appreciate it. How long did u do Uworld for ?

I did UWorld for 2-3 months. I didn’t finish all the questions in the bank this time. In the past, I’ve done all the questions and still failed because I didn’t write everything out. I focused more on quality over quantity and I did the questions in order of the “subjects” in UWorld, so “Adult Health, Child Health, Critical Care, Fundamentals etc.

Doing the subjects in order helped me organize my notes. So my notes would start with “Adult Health, Child Health, Crictical Care, Fundamentals etc., just like how I was doing them on UWorld. Also, I liked using a lot of highlighters to highlight major topics in certain colors.

For content review, I would honestly check out your local Half-Priced Bookstores to see if anyone sold their ATI NCLEX-PN Review book and snag it up! I read through this book and did all the questions in the Uworld-PN Q-bank and two practice assessments. Looking back, I feel like I could've saved my money and left out Uworld- I think the questions are great practice but a bit overkill. I think the ATI review book, RegisteredNurseRN on YouTube, and a good grasp on prioritization, delegation and assignment is all you need to be successful.

I passed with 85 questions and spent two weeks preparing for the NCLEX. I originally scheduled my test for a month after I got my ATT but the anxiety was killing me so I moved up my test and I'm so glad I did!

Good luck to you!!

I was in the same boat as you. I graduated in 2013 and I didn’t take my nclex until this year- so 6 years later. I’m in Florida but I didn’t have to do anything special. I did take a refresher course and I studied for about 2.5 months straight before taking it and I passed on the first time. You got this!

Wow! Instructors always push students to take it asap. That’s how it was when I went for my LPN but if I can pass it 3 years later and for you 6 years later, than it can be done.

Please consider “lifesavers” review with Professor Paul - I took the review and passed (first try after being out of School for a while) Trust me, he teaches you what you need to know. He explains how to answer NCLEX style questions the NCLEX way! He’s amazing!! You won’t be disappointed. xoxo
