Graduated 3 years ago, now I’m considering taking the NCLEX
For content review, I would honestly check out your local Half-Priced Bookstores to see if anyone sold their ATI NCLEX-PN Review book and snag it up! I read through this book and did all the questions in the Uworld-PN Q-bank and two practice assessments. Looking back, I feel like I could've saved my money and left out Uworld- I think the questions are great practice but a bit overkill. I think the ATI review book, RegisteredNurseRN on YouTube, and a good grasp on prioritization, delegation and assignment is all you need to be successful. I passed with 85 questions and spent two weeks preparing for the NCLEX. I originally scheduled my test for a month after I got my ATT but the anxiety was killing me so I moved up my test and I'm so glad I did! Good luck to you!!

What kind of LPN job should I get while in the RN program?
If you don't mind leaving your current hospital, maybe you should look into pediatric home health. That's what I'm currently doing and I LOVE the flexibility in the hours I choose to work and the cases I want to work. I'm not sure if this is the case with all home health agencies though (patient assignments). I'll be in your shoes next May- starting the LVN to RN program at my local community college. Once I start school, I plan to go down to part-time status. I chose this route because I did not want to commit to a Monday-Friday, 8-5 clinic position that will eventually conflict with my classes. Good luck!

Any Texas LVN!?
Hi Amanda! I'm also a new LVN in the DFW area. I was recently hired at a pediatric home health agency called Angels of Care. I think you should look into this agency if you're interested in pediatrics. You can work prn, part-time or full-time which is great if you're going back to get your RN. The fastest way to get an interview is to go to their Facebook job postings page and leave a comment that you're looking for cases in the DFW area. A recruiter will contact you to see what you're looking for and give you information about an onsite interview/orientation process at one of their locations.

How much do you make?
I'm currently making $20.50/hour with no evening or weekend differentials. I don't mind the lower wage (for now) since I just graduated from nursing school in August. As a new nurse, I'm taking on lower acuity patients- (g-button) to protect my license. I definitely do not want to jump into patients on a vent or with a trach because I don't think I'm experienced enough to care for these patients independently at this time.
