Hello, I am desperate!!!
I live in Dayton, OH. I have been applying everyday since I've got my liscense, and I have not even been called for an interview!!!!!
I have no experience, but I am eager to start working. I don't know what to do!!!
I really care about people, I know I can be a great nurse if given the chance...
I am open for volunteering, shadowing a nurse, any shift, any sheduled, ANYTHING
Any suggestions???? THANK YOU!!!!!

You're in good company ... a lot of new grads are having extreme challenges in finding employment. If you are able to relocate, that might be helpful. Have you only applied to hospitals? If so, you should widen your search to other facilities. Good luck!

Start volunteering if you can, not that I can guarantee that it will get you a job. At least it keeps you in the healthcare environment and lets you meet people that could be resources for you later. As far as finding a place to volunteer...think about where your interests lie and look for a volunteer opportunity there. Narrow it down to the 2-3 hospitals where you'd most like to work and haunt them... ask what they're looking for in a new grad and what you can do to make yourself a more attractive candidate.
(Not sure how good my advice is since I haven't found a job yet either... but at least I'm being proactive.)

Call the facilities you have applied to, let them know you have sent in your information and you were wondering if any decisions had been made, what positions may still be available, or if they had any specific questions about your application. I would start with the HR dept.
I graduated in 09, live in a rural area, sent my app. to 5 of the closest facilities, and had very good references...but no calls from any of the facilities. So I called the one I was most interested in, I personally knew the HR manager, and he let me know that they had no "business office openings" (hence I'm a second career nurse). I politely let him know I was applying for their open nursing position, to which he replied, "you have to have graduated from a school of nursing before being a nurse"...to which I said, "I did, just below my name and contact information you will see that I have listed my nursing school education"...to which he said, "oh I see that now...I will get this to the med/surg. manager and she will be calling you in a couple of days for an interview"...later that day she called and I came in that afternoon for my first interview...the rest is history.
So, my advice, call them.
