Grades for RPN Programs

Published

Hi all,

I have applied to a few RPN programs across southern Ontario and I am just wondering about how likely it is for me to actually get in. I would like to know from you all in RPN programs, what kind of grades did you have at all levels prior to RPN?

I applied late and had some mess relating to my high school transcript, so I ended up at the waiting list at all my choices for September: Georgian, Mohawk, Fleming, and St. Clair. The admissions lady at Georgian said I was #1 on the list but I haven't heard an update, maybe I've been moved down. I am still waiting for Mohawk Jan 2015. Does being on the waiting list mean you're good enough, but they just don't have enough spots?

I have a BA in Kinesiology already but my grades were average (C+) and also my high school marks were average, early 70s maybe. I think my HOAE was 83.5%, if I'm calculating correctly. Are these enough to get into RPN?

I'm sorry for the long post, just feeling hopeless about it all. Not sure where to turn if RPN doesn't work out.

Thanks

I did my 2 years of high school in Toronto. I took all University preparatory classes so I thought I didn't have any problem even though my math and chemistry class was kinda low. It actually depends too on whatever the prerequisites for the program is. I went to Seneca for example and these are the requirements:

Admission Requirements

Program Eligibility:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with:
    • Grade 12 English: ENG4© or ENG4(U)
    • Grade 11 Biology: ©
    • Grade 12 Physics or Chemistry: ©
    • Grade 12 Mathematics: © or (U) or Grade 11 Mathematics: (U) or (M)

[*]OR Mature Student Status (age 19 or older) with the above prerequisite course(s), their equivalent(s), or appropriate Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) Certificate program credits (see Academic Upgrading).

Required:

  • A valid certification in Basic Rescuer Level Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Health Care Provider prior to clinical placement.
  • A valid certificate in Standard First Aid (SFA) prior to clinical placement.
  • A current medical and immunization report prior to clinical placement.
  • A current clear police record check.
  • A record of respirator fit test prior to clinical placement.

Applicant Selection:

  • As this is an oversubscribed program, applicants will be required to attend a standardized orientation where they will complete a mandatory $55 pre-admissions screening test in English and Math.

You are University graduate from another program so it differs on the way they assess you.

I have a lot of classmates who have taken RPN after finishing a program before.

The late application may have delayed the process too. So solutions are to just wait or if they offer the program in a later date like winter per se then try to apply.

Mine were for Conestoga, and was accepted into Sept program.

Hoae was an 81%.

My high school marks were in the range of 90-95% (Due to the extra 10% on U level courses added).

Also my University average wasnt anything to brag about, it was around an 80%. So I dont think your university grades really count - what does count is your high school grades.

Your university counts if you want to opt out of certain programs it seems.

I had a friend who was on the wait list and she got in! So dont lose hope yet.
