Grad School?

Published

I am a new nurse with 4 months of experience. I think I have a hidden passion to be an educator - whether that means teaching students or educating patients. I am looking into grad school, but am curious as to how much experience I should consider having before applying? Is there any kind of general guideline? The two programs I've looked at generally take 3-5 years going to school part-time. Is ICU experience required for grad school? Is it possible to be qualified to be an educator with those 4 or 5 years of experience if I start going to school part time next year? Would I be jumping the gun by going back to school with only a year experience? Obviously I want to create a solid foundation for my future as an educator so I am wondering if I would be doing myself a disservice going back too soon.

Sorry for so many questions, I'm just trying to get an idea of how I should be preparing myself. Thank you to anyone who may be able to help. :)

i don't think all grad programs require icu experience, but take a look at schools that offer the specific program that your interested in. check out what the pre-req's are required.

Remember A & P? I'm considering going on for my Masters, and my adviser this week said she has critcal care nurse fail an advanced A & P class that's required. She says 20 hours a week minimum of studying just for that class. That's not to scare you, I just happened to speak to my adviser this week, and that was what she told me.

Have you thought about talking to an adviser?

Good luck!
