Yes, you would lose the GN status if you do not pass and cannot continue to work in that role.
The GN status is actually gone when you test; you either pass and get your license, or are unable to continue in the GN role.
Always best to write the exam first and then it is one less thing to worry about. And always easier to get a job with a license.
Best of luck on your exam.
i have a similar question. i am currently a CNA and have been for yrs. My job that i have had for yrs, offered me a GN position untill i take my boards. Done with program on July 23rd. Their GN position is a CNA position with GN pay. No meds, tx, etc. I was told it was a state law, so that is not the problem. . However, I will be working as a CNA untill boards due to bills. So should I take the GN position (still have the same CNA job though) just with the pay.
Also I am not sure if I want to stay there or explore my other options after i pass my boards. Not looking for anything untill i pass boardsthough .
The reasons I would stay would be- already know pts/rountine, good environment, nice pay/ benefits, lg company to transfer inside of, etc. # 1 reason; they work with my school schedule! I want to continue for my RN and transition program starts in February. Really not to far away.
Reasons I would leave: more experience, possible better pay, new enviroment/ people.
So should I take the GN pay & stay with the company?

I would look up your state's nursing laws to see if that is the case. I know some states don't allow GN's, but I never heard of one that did allowing them using them as CNA's. When I start as a GN in a couple weeks, I'll have all the responsibilities of an RN.

I have just graduated from LPN school. *wineI am waiting for my seating pass/authorization for the NCLEX. I am interested in getting a GN position, however, if don't pass the NCLEX on the first time, do I lose my GN job? Thanks.
