GPC New and Old Students....

Published

I have applied and waiting to here if I got into Fall 2006 program. I have completed all classes except Micro. Per the nursing admission person at Gwinnett, there were 700 applicants (some of which were not qualified). They will be taking 60-70 people at Gwinnett.

For any of you in the program, what was your GPA for your Biologies and General Courses under the nursing program, your NET composite score, how many were admitted to the program, how many dropped out? If there's any other info. to prepare me it would be appreciated.

They said I should hear by the end of the 1st week of May. I'm about to go nuts!!!!!:monkeydance:

Thanks

I started in the fall of 2004. I originally applied for the spring of 04 but didn't get in and had to wait until the fall.

It seems like all the people that got in had like 3.5 to 4.0 gpas! Not me. I had like a 2.7, a B in A&P 1, a C in A&P2, and a C in Micro. I got a B in Chemistry. My academic advisor told me the only reason I got in is because I scored so high on the NET (don't remember what I got). So I don't think it's as hard to get in as people say (although who knows?).

We started with 149 people combined (Lawrenceville and Clarkston campuses). I'm in the final semster now and there's 9 of us left from the original 149. 18 of the original 149 graduated in December (they took the 3rd semester in the summer and went straigh through). We have 26 currently in our class. This consists of our original 9, 3 people who failed 4th sem. previously and the rest are from people who started 1st semster in the spring of 05 (they joined up with us in the fall for 3rd sem. after taking med surg in the summer).

So out of 149, about 27 of us made it to the final semester.

Good luck, I hope you get in. It's tough but you can do it!

Specializes in Starting in Labor and Delivery!!.

I too started in the Fall of 04 and am in my last semester......I am one of the 9 that rollie refers to above......

WOW! Rollie, I had never actually ran the numbers.....I knew we had lost A BUNCH but did not realize just how many we have lost over the last year and a half. hmmmmmm.....:o ;)

I am not sure what my score was on the NET but had about a 3.0 gpa....(for the pre-reqs) my overall gpa was much lower due to going to college about 20 years ago and not taking it seriously......I wrote a letter to the addmissions dept (nursing dept) to explain to them why my gpa was as low as it was and would they please take in to account that my bad gpa was due to college almost 20 years ago......I am not sure if that letter actually helped me get in or what but about 3 weeks later I got my acceptance letter.......

Momgrad....when are you planning on taking Micro?......I HIGHLY recommend NOT doing it while in the Nursing program......

Best of luck to you...let us know what happens!

BEANURSE and ROLLIE, thanks for your replies.

:uhoh3: Wow it must be tough if only 27 people are left. I hear good and bad things about the program. I've been going there for my pre-nursing classes since 1999. It has taken me forever due to the fact I'm married and a stay at home mom to 3. I'm am bound and determined to get through this.

I have 3.20 overall GPA and 2.9 in Sciences. BUT I only made a 67% composite on my NET :angryfire That's the only thing I'm worried about.

I was planning on taking Micro in the Summer, but we have a lot of traveling planned - my daughter is going to be visiting colleges. I've also planned a trip to New York for my husband's birthday. I'll be taking Micro in Fall unfortunately.

Are there any nursing instructors that you've really found to be of help to you? Are there any that you REALLY can't get along with?

Just piping in with my .02, as I'm in with BEANURSE and ROLLIE

There are some great faculty members at GPC (although I don't know the L'ville campus teachers very well). I think that each student bonds with a professor who can really help you out. I've found a few on campus that are always available for a quick "Attagirl" or a kick in the pants if that is what I need. One important thing to note with the GPC program, it is constantly changing. There are courses and advantages offered to the new students that weren't options when we started. I wish they had been because I feel like it may have given me a leg up, so to speak. Best of luck to you.

Those of you who are already in the GPC program either at Lawrenceville or Clarkston, I would much appreciate if you help me with below information.

For fall of 2006, the program lists that we need 1921. This class is held Tu/We from 9-1 pm and I understand clinicals are Th and Fri from 6.30 to 3 or so.

Does that mean that we are free on all Mondays and on Tu and Wed after 1 pm or are there any additional classes that are held. What I need to know is do we need to come to campus other than the above times for the first semester.

Likewise for the second semester we need 1930 and that is Tu/We frm 9-1pm. My questions are the same.

In the third semester we need 2920 and 2924 which is Mondays from 9-12 and 1-4. Does this mean we are free on Tu and Wed and only have clinicals again on Th and Fri or do the clinicals days increase ?

In the fourth semester the only class listed in 2928 which is T/W from 9-1 pm. Same questions ?

What I really want to know is that other than the schedule of classes listed AND the clinical timings, do we have to be on campus for anything else.

Pleeeeeeeeeeese, help me understand this better. I have to make so many decisions based on this for my daughter's school and also if this program is feasible at all for me. If I go into it not knowing what to expect, I will be forced to drop out if the schedule turns out to be something different. So please help me. I will be extremely grateful.

Thank you,

I'm in 2nd semester and I can tell you that very few people actually work outside of the program. And they work part-time (one is an LPN, one is a Surgical Tech., a couple are PCT's.) The program requires you leave your weekdays open --- and your weekends open for study. I honestly don't know how anybody works in addition to this program. I have the utmost respect for those individuals.

this is from the horse's mouth-in other words, I am a professor at GPC. you can pretty much figure to be busy every day M-F from 9-4. MOndays you will have skills lab check offs and information. tuesday and/or wednesday afternoon you will have extra seminars, math tests, video watching and hospital stuff. it varies from week to week but it is more rare to have a free afternoon. and if you do, you will be reading. 2nd semester (1930) same thing. you have more flexibility in the 3rd and 4th semesters but I am not as familiar with those schedules. if you are wondering about child care, plan on it from M-F from 9-4.

Thanks for the heads up on the schedule at GPC. That helps me when planning for childcare. Since you work there, any word on when the letters should be heading out?
