This question is for all Nursing students accepted into nursing school working on a generic BSN program. What was your GPA when you applied, and were accepted, into nursing school? Im a pre-nursing student with 2 more semesters before I apply. Its becoming disturbingly apparent to me just how extremely competitive Nursing school is, especially the one my school (University of Texas @ San Antonio) feeds into (UT Heath Science Center @ SA). I got off to a rough start in school (24 year-old single mom of a 4 month old, no family in SA and I hadnt been in school in over 5 years) not knowing how competitive the field was. My GPA is a 3.20 currently and Im trying like crazy to bring it up with all As but, as you know, the classes only get harder. Im just trying to get a realistic idea of the situtation. So, if you would share your GPA and any other advice I would greatly appriciate it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "generic" BSN, but my school ranked students from 4.0 downward (that was for transfer students, which I was). My GPA was 3.9 when I applied. I think students who started out their freshman year at the university were accepted with a lower GPA...3.5, I believe. Good luck to you!!

My GPA was a 4.0 when I applied, but I know that some students got in with lower ones. My advice is too apply to as many schools as you can. That way you have more of a chance of getting in somewhere. I ended up applying to four different schools. Good luck!!

This situation may not apply to you, but it may give you some renewed hope.
My coworker, an LVN, is in her very first semester of a BSN program at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. She was accepted with a 2.8 grade point average. I have observed that the outlying, rural nursing schools tend to have more relaxed admissions requirements.

I was a transfer student into a generic/traditional BSN program. My GPA was around 3.6 and I was accepted on the first shot. There are other students in my program that got accepted with lower GPAs....the cutoff was 2.5. You have a decent GPA so I would agree to apply to as many nursing programs as you possibly can. I bet you'll get in to at least one! Good luck!
Thats great info! thank you!
