(GPA) Question about HCC RN Program

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hi, I'm new to the site (although I have been a lurker for a while!). I can't apply to the program until Jan 2012, but I have a question. I have 3 pre-reqs left (A&P 2 Lecture/Lab & College Alg), so long as I do get an "A" in each, which is my goal, my GPA will be 3.428. I feel kind of discouraged about getting in. I mean, I know it depends on who applies with me, but still. My advisor seemed like my chances were slim. She kept telling me I should not go under a 3.4... she even mentioned maybe being an LPN first? She didn't straight out say I didn't have a chance, but she did not look optimistic (maybe it was my paranoia?).

I guess I just figured I would ask you guys. I mean I would at least have a chance of being an alternate right? (If I'm not accepted the first time?). I keep thinking that if I would just have had 1 MORE "A", I would have a 3.5 & have a much better chance. :crying2:

I'm hoping I'm calculating correctly?

Eng Comp: B

Sociology: B

Anatomy 1: B

Anatomy 1 Lab: A

Microbio: B

Microbio Lab: A

Anatomy 2: A

Anatomy 2 Lab: A

College Alg: A

= 3.428?

Sorry, I'm bombarding you guys with questions, I'm just so anxious! Thanks in advance! I just feel like I've been in school forever. :p Had to start at MAT 0012

Anyone?

With a 3.4 it is cutting it kind of close because thats typically where the floor gpa is. If you take a look at some of the HCC forums you'll see what the gpas were that got in. If aything 3.48 sounds like a score that could get you a seat. I'm applying for this fall and hope to hear an answer soon. you should start sticking your nose into our forum so you can get some more feedback! and so you can see what this year's cut off will be.

and make sure you do pull those A's (I know you can do it!!) here is a link to our thread

Thank you! I know that's why I'm so nervous. AND trust me, I will get those a's! I MUST! :p

Im applying for Fall 2012 as well & my gpa isnt much higher than yours but heres some encoragement: You mentioned you feel like youve been at hcc forever well the good news is that (Although 3.4 is low for nursing program) if it comes down to you vs. 0ther 3.4s they'll pick the person who overall has more college credits (mat classes and rea aren't worth college credit but your other classes do) And Ive read on this forum that less people apply for Spring so worst case if you get placed as an alternate or don't make it for Fall, then apply for Spring!

I thought there was no way in hell i would get accepted into the program, and i got lucky! my gpa was extremely low - 3.2 or 3.3 i don't really remember. it all depends on who has applied and what their gpa's are. what calley said about the college credits is right, and also about less people applying for spring. good luck!

i'm interested in applying and i have a gpa question, too! hopefully someone can help me!

1. does the minimum gpa that is calculated for admission consist of non-prereq's or is this for all college courses taken? if so, does this gpa include courses not taken at hcc, or is it just your gpa at hcc? i'm confused. some have said it is only for pre-req's (like at lonestar) and a few others have said that it includes all college level courses.

2. for those who have been accepted, what was your status? what was your gpa on prerequisites? what was your overall (all college courses) gpa? which courses did you complete and which didn't you submit?

i'm currently in my 1st semester here in the nursing program and the gpa calculation consists solely on the pre-reqquisite courses

a. enc 1101 freshman english 1 3cr

b. bcs 1085 human anatomy & physiology 1 3cr

c. bsc 1085l human anatomy & physiology lab 1cr

d. bsc 1086 human anatomy & physiology ii 3cr

e. bsc 1086l human anatomy & physiology lab ii 1cr

f. mac1105 college algebra 3cr - or higher (updated 2010)

g. syg 2000 introduction to sociology 3cr.

h. mcb 1000 microbiology 3cr.

i. mcb 1000l microbiology lab 1cr.

doesn't matter where you got them from as long as you submit your transcripts to the school. your overall gpa does not matter. if your gpa is above a 3.5 you are in a more comfortable position to get in... the floor of our program was around 3.57ish. each semester is different and spring usually has an easier time since there are fewer applicants. good luck!!!

Holy cow, how did you pull off A's in the sciences? Who were your instructors for Anatomy because I just can't seem to pass that dang class.

Don't you also need freshman eng 2 to get in?
