Hi Everyone!

Planning on applying for a VA job at a local clinic. Wondering people's experiences with hire times, ect....

I'll see if I can do a search in a bit for previous posts. Just wanted to throw this out there for now.

Any info, tips, ect... is much appreciated!

Probably about 4 months, from what I have seen and read here. I have been offered VA employment in the past (declined it) and it took a little more than a month for the job offer alone after my interview.

Specializes in mental health / psychiatic nursing.

One of my friends is going through the process now. Applied in March/April. Interview & Offer in May, July they finally set up physical/drug screen; it's currently August and she still hasn't actually started yet... So it can take a LONG time.

Depends on the need of the facility and the timeliness of your responses. We recently had new hires that took 6 weeks from interview to start date. But that is not the norm. Our applicants were very motivated, and our facility was motivated as well. The longest aspect was boarding process as that took 3 weeks in itself.

Ok so here's my experience.

Applied 10/17

Interviewed 12/17

Physical 12/17

Lots of random communications with HR and Credentialing 1/18-3/18

"Soft offer" 3/18

Silence.

"Firm offer" 6/18.

Burning my group PTO, completing my 401k vesting, and resignation

Start 9/18.

Many perks!

40,000 pay cut but still over 100k salary. Yep, sure is. Have many reasons for wanting this transition too.

Tips: know someone or lots of someones.

Everyone has been very kind and personal over the application period. Have good feelings about it all. Never once felt like a little fish in a big pond.
