I am 48 and want to serve as a nurse in the military. I have 25 years of open heart surgery experience. What are my options?

From what I remember, the age cutoff for a RN to enter the military was 42 and that was with an age waiver. Your best course for more information about this would be to speak with a AMEDD recruiter.

I also remember the age cutoffs to be around the 40s (I was looking for myself at one point). But definitely ask the recruiters for each of the services. If a service has a particular nursing need to fill, they may be willing to make an exception to the age limits. And you have nothing to lose by trying.
Best of luck.

Unfortunately, your age is a limiting factor; you are 6 years over the limit, and the process to commission can also take up to a year. I doubt they will issue an age waiver, but you can ask a recruiter. The military in general is very full of nurses, which makes them less inclined to issue waivers. Good luck!

I am in the Air Force Reserve Nurse Corps. The last I heard was that they increased the maximum age to 48.
