Navy Nurses FY18 MECP

Hello Everyone!

First off, thanks for taking the time to read this! I understand the Navy's Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP) is a recurring topic on this forum, but I haven't seen any related threads within the past couple years.

I'm active duty (Enlisted) and I'm looking to make a pretty significant career change from my current job to hopefully commissioning via MECP to become an RN after schooling, of course.

As I work to get my package together for the FY18 submission deadline which is around May-Jun 2017 at my command, I'm seeking any guidance or mentorship from someone who has essentially "been there, done that."

I'd love to know about your experience as a Navy Nurse in general or with the MECP process in particular. Any and all input is welcome as I prepare to begin applying through this great program.

I look forward to your feedback!

How's it going Brian,

I am also attempting to put a package together for the FY18 MECP. I was just wondering where are you stationed, how many years do you have in, have you started doing volunteer work?

I am stationed on the JEB Little Creek/Fort Story base in Virginia. I have 6 years in and I am an LS. I am looking at volunteering for the Virginia Beach Rescue squad because I will get the hands on experience and it is a little more unique than a hospital setting. If anyone with more knowledge thinks otherwise please let me know.

Also, if you're stationed in VA maybe we could work together for our MECP applications. I plan to apply for the ODU nursing program so if anyone has any insight for their program and especially for the MECP route, I would love to hear it! I need to get the majority of the science classes that are prerequisites done before I turn my application in. Thanks again for any and all advice!

Very respectful,

Cody Orr

I applied to the program this year, just waiting to hear back. Did you apply this year? How do you think your MECP package came together?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.
Specializes in ICU, Military.

ALL

I am the MECP Coordinator on my ship. I can help point you in the right direction. PM me.

I can't PM yet, because I don't have enough posts yet. Did you get accepted to MECP as well?

Specializes in ICU, Military.

No I was an RN prior to joining the Navy so I got a Direct Commission. I coordinate the MECP program for our ship because I'm the only RN on board

The results of the FY-18 MECP came out recently, here they are... http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/messages/Documents/NAVADMINS/NAV2017/NAV17019.txt

I found out that I was not selected. Now I need to make a decision on applying again or getting out. This will be tough. Do you still plan on applying for FY-19?

Hello ,

i am looking to put in a package for MECP, but I was looking for a little guidance. I don't know anyone who has done this before. I feel as though people who have completed this would be the best help.

Thank you

I can't PM but I was wondering if you could guide me in the right direction as far as applying for the MECP . Thank you .

For MECP, you should really start now as far as getting everything in order. You will need to get an interview with your CO. In addition you will need to do a board with 3 officers (1 of which needs to be an RN). I would highly suggest the members of your board be 0-4 or higher or if 0-3, they should be nurses. Have you already been to the website and looked at all the requirements? Also I applied last year and didn't get accepted. I was told most people don't get accepted after 1 try. So no matter what I would apply this year, even if you feel you are not ready. This way it would be your 1st attempt, then next year your package will be improved and you will have a better chance.

Could you help me with the MECP. I am in the navy and have started my application.
