Hello all, am considering the Nurse corps am not sure which service as yet. I am starting the research now. I have been a nurse 4.5 yrs with 4 yrs of ICU nursing with CCRN certification and 16 yrs prior enlisted navy. Does any one know if entry level rank comensurates with nursing experience?. For example with 4 yrs of nursing experience would I be able to start at lets say 02?. Thank for any info in advance

IF it is with the Navy it should be an O2 as long as your experience as an RN has been after you completed your BSN. If you had an ADN then completed your BSN, the time you worked as an ADN will not count towards constructive credit.

In the USAF you would get constructive credit for all your RN experience (ADN or BSN, but you will need your BSN to enter the AF). You get 1/2 credit towards rank for the 1st 6yrs and 1:1 credit towards rank after the 1st 6yrs of RN experience up to Major. In other words assuming that you had your BSN and it took you 6 months to get in you would come in as a 1Lt with 6months credit towards Captain (O-3). You would also be able to come in with your ICU identifier and go straight to the ICU with all you critical care experience.

Out of curiosity, why did you get out of the Navy with 16yrs experience?

Thank you for all the advice and trying to make the best decision to maximize my retirement etc am still in the navy reserves as an E6 Corpsman. So to the airforce response, if I understand correctly, I should be able to come in as an 02?

THANKS TO jECKrn AND WTBcrna

Yes, with your experience you should be able to come in as an O-2 and then in a 1.5yrs or less promote to O-3 depending on how long the application process takes.

hello again folks and especially the air force nurse. In the air force is there an equivalent pay scale for officers (OE) with prior enlisted experience as is the case in the navy/army?

thanks in advance :nurse:

The pay scale is universal with all uniformed services, so yes there is prior enlisted pay (E pay) for the AF. The only difference in pay/benefits that you might find in the services is bonus/speciality pays.

wtbCRNA, thank you for all the great info, I believe by the time am through with the process I will have alittle over 5 yrs nursing exp, I get out of my enlistment in may next year
