I just spoke with the recruiter, it looks like they will need more nurses this year and budget will be increased for it. So..it looks like people, including myself, will have a good chance of being selected for this board. I am applying for a med-surg position.

o...man! thanks . i am on the list for reserves and have been told i will likely get the oath by the end of this month...i believe they are in a race to lock me in as a flight nurse reserve position. i honestly don't think i'll get picked if i wasn't picked last fall. at that time i just got into icu about 3 months and applied for icu on the recommendation of the nurse recruiter. i probably should have looked into med/surg to be safe! i do hear that if they want you that they will sometimes offer another spot to an icu, er, etc nurse into another spot if the applicant is interested in getting in. we'll see. thanks for the input! now...wouldn't it be ironic :uhoh3: that both want me and i go with reserves to feel safe and get in. i have been trying since april 2010 with all of this and the reserves since early december *that's been a lot faster because there are spots for me*:heartbeat cross your fingers:heartbeat

Has anyone heard anything yet from the July boards? I'm just curious as I am looking to go reserves if the active duty does not work out (I'm ICU and was already put on the back burner in the Nov board selection). Thanks!!!

I have had long talks with my recruiter about boards (EXCELLENT RECRUITER!). Here is some info that I got from a conversation (I have edited the names).

As far as chances or odds at this board, TSgt R. thinks I have a pretty good shot at getting in. He guessed that I have and 85-90 percent chance. Stated that in years past there has not been this many spots available (185 positions). Also, with the last board for fully qualified nurses he said that initially the Air Force non-selected many applicants, but ended up calling non-selects back up when they found out that their budget was increased for new nurses, so they may be hesitant to non-select people at this board. In past years (before downturn in economy) selection rate has been or been close to 100 percent...this board could be 100 percent, especially considering that there may not be enough applicants at the 11NC04 board to fill all positions. TSgt R. eluded to the fact that he only has 4 applicants going to board and that he covers a 6 state area, stated that for midwest that he knows of only 16 applicants being submitted to the fully qualified board 11NC04 board. However, Col C. has been known to be stricter on requirements since being at the AFRS, though that may change if there are not enough applicants and may have change of mind after having to call up a large ammount of non-selects.

Commissioning dates depend on COT date in general. For example, COT 12-02 which starts Jan 09, 2012, commissioning would take place around the end of September to the beginning of October. He said that they usually try to get commissioning completed as soon as possible. Once commissioning has taken place, would be considered non-paid in the Air Force Reserves until you leave for assigned COT date. FYI, he said that my scroll has been completed for the Air Force Active duty and for Air Force Reserve. It is scrolled for both branches because the newly commissioned are, as mentioned, considered/enrolled into the Air Force Reserve until they leave for COT.

If selected for Active Duty, TSgt R. stated that I would know around the Estimated Release Date of August 19th 2011. Would know results if selected by end of month at latest. Once selected, they have OATH OUT, which means that the oath needs to be completed within 14 days from when it is out.

Other information that was conveyed was that Col C. could call people directly while at board to question them about their experience, ask about placement, or what specialty, goal they have. This is a good sign and means that they are interested in you, and trying to find the best fit for placement.

Once selected, you are paired with a sponsor from the base that you are going to the relays information such as housing, lodging, areas of interest, ect. Can go to the Military Clothing Store and start getting uniforms for COT.

I was told last fall I had a great chance...I was later told I was a non-select most likely due to possitions available. I was told 200 applicants last fall and only 11 spots, plus I imagine the back-up people, too. My recruiter stated she has never had someone get passed over to MAKE IT on the next board. She said, likely, they don't want you the first time...they won't choose you the second. Yet, I'm a RN with 17 years of experience. I am 38, BSN, great shape...there really isn't anything to hold me back and the reserves has been going smoothly with a flight physical passed:) I guess I was sooo shocked I didnt' get active duty...that I've almost given up. I gave them the verbal permission to resubmit to this board...so we shall see!

What date did you put down as your preferred COT date for the active duty board?

IowaRNBSN,

I do not remember. I believe I put down asap. available. I submitted last fall so I believe I actually used spring 2011 time-frame as prefered at that time. I had a phone call from the active duty recruiter in May asking if it was OK to re-submit and I said yes. She did not ask me for a prefered date for COT then.

This whole process takes FOREVER!!!

Oahufish,

I would have to consult an active duty recruiter in your area to be sure. I do know the age cut off is 42 for the Air Force. I hope it does work out for you. It's taken me over a year for active duty application/ processing and it's taken since December for reserves. I should hear from both shortly!

TinaRN73, I agree, this process has taken forever. Sounds as though IowaRN has some good inside information. I guess we just have to wait till the end of August to find out if we were selected or not. My recruiter told me that even though I was not selected last board, that I was not a "non-select". Which he said is a good thing. I am very ready for this process to be over. I had originally contacted a Air Force recruiter clear back in 2008. But my wife was hesitant at that time. I was not going to get into the military without her being on board. So last year we discussed it again and decided to apply. Of course, it happen to be the year that no one got out of the Air Force and a lot of nurses we trying to get in. Just my luck. I guess at the end of August the suspense will be over for a lot of us.

To my understanding about the last board: if you were not selected as a selectee or an alternate spot then you were a "non-select". Sounds like you and I were in the same boat last fall. Lets cross fingers for this month's board!!! ;)

19 days until the board meets. 6 Weeks from today we should know! I want to know now, but I also do not to have my summer go by in a flash. So much time has been devoted to getting to this point, and sitting back and waiting for results is excruciatingly difficult. I would like to be able to plan my next 6 months.

I totally agree!!! :yeah: We have made it this far and not everyone can. We all deserve a pat on the back... lets keep in touch so perhaps we'll be at COT the same time or share some more experiences about this whole process. Lots of luck to everyone who has a package out

Hello everyone, I too have my packet submitted for the July 26th fully qualified board. Does anyone know how long after the board date they are going to notify the candidates whether or not they were selected?
