Got a question about transfering my courses to other places

Hi folks. I'll make this short. Basically, I'm 34, and so I really am kind of "behind" career wise. I'm starting my prereqs this coming fall. The problem is that the CC I go to, even though it's very large and they have room for 350 students because of their new addition, they are competitive. I don't have a lot of extra time to play their "competitive" games that they like to play, and was wondering if I could transfer my completed classes to other community colleges or even other states? I need to get the ball rolling fast. I'm planning on doing everything I can to get decent grades, but I don't have time for a lot of nonsense. If I would have to apply to every community college in the entire US of A, so be it. So what I would need to know is if I had to move to hillbillyville Ark, would I be able to xfer my credits there to get into school? Any information would be super appreciated. Thanks a lot

as long as you are attending an accredited school there should be no problem transferring credits. Most colleges have a matrix that will define what CC course number will credit which University course.

It's mainly the private for profit schools that have credits that usually don't transfer.

I'm graduating from a community college in a week with my Associate's Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences and I have a lot of experience with transferring credits. I've been told that you can't go wrong with state schools, even at the community college level. Even though I was accepted to a private 4 year university out of state (I'm from CT), they accepted all of my nursing prerequisites from the community college towards their BSN nursing program. Some of the other schools I applied to were out of state public universities and even though I didn't get into their nursing program, they still accepted my community college credits, so I don't see why another community college out of state wouldn't accept them either. I've also successfully transferred credits from one community college to another (but they were in the same state).

To be safe, my advice to you would be to make a list of all of the colleges you're interested in transferring to, contact someone in their admissions department, and ask what their policy is regarding transfer credits and credits from out of state.

Also, when considering transferring credits in the future, be mindful of your courses with labs, like your sciences. For example, make sure you that you take the "4 credit" Anatomy and Physiology I&II with the lab. I had a friend take an A&P course that was 3 credits for some reason and they had to re-take the 4 credit version all over again.

Now that would have gotten on my nerves if I had to retake that! lol Anywho, thanks for that information. You seem like a smart gal..I don't know if I can conctact the colleges directly, because there are 1,655 community colleges in this great nation, and I am going to apply to each and everyone of them every single semester until someone says "Hey Josh, why don't you come to our nursing program" :)

I transferred from a university to a community college (uhh long story...LOL). But the community college did not accepted ALL of my classes. Thankfully I didn't had to take those classes over because they were simple classes. Even though I was mad because I had A's in those classes and it help my gpa alot!!! But if the classes you took have a different course number than the one they have, than they won't take it. Also where do you stay, because where I'm from the community colleges aren't competitive!!

Mad?,, no, no, no, I would have gotten down rite unpleasant if they said I couldn't transfer my classes. That's a lot of time and MONEY! lol
