Hi guys,
I got offered a job working at a peritoneal dialysis, more specifically, working at a nephrology clinic. I would be assigned around 20 patients per day... starting from 8am to 5pm. I cant tell if this is manageable or not... is this safe patient to nurse ratio??? I am assuming the place would want me to work independently. Oh yeah, training is 2 to 3 days. And no, you dont have to be certified either. Let me know what your suggestions are. Should I take it or walk away?

I would ask to shadow to see what you think. All PD in my area is home or inpatient hospital, but all is associated to the clinic. So 20 in home would be horrible! But this doesn't really sound the same. Look deeper so you can get an answer, especially if you don't have any experience with this. Good luck!

Agree with Hoosier - 20 pts in a day! Wow!

I'm a PD nurse in a home therapy setting, on an absolutely INSANE day with doctors there, I MIGJT see 12 patients. And there will be a while lotta overtime for the charting!

I'm thinking you are misinterpreting the 1:20 ratio. I have worked in several home PD and HHD programs and general a RN is expected to "case manage" a load of 20 patients who are at home. You would see each patient at least 1 to 2 times a month and as needed.
That's what they said. 20 patients a day. I didn't get the offer anyways so....

If it were that many, be glad. Sounds like a bad situation
