Got an interview!!!

I don't graduate until February but I got a call from my all-time favorite hospital that I have an interview!!! I am so happy and grateful! I know I haven't been offered a job, but I'm still excited that I even got a call for an interview! I have wanted to be an RN at the University of Iowa H&C for so long and now I have a SHOT! I cannot contain my excitement! This is one of those times where I don't care what shift or pay, I just want to work there! It would mean moving out of state and reworking my husband's career path, but he's willing and I'm excited. Just had to share my excitement :) Any tips?!?!

Know their mission statement.

Be able to discuss your strengths and weaknesses. (this requires introspection, and you get points for thinking about and giving examples of how you have addressed, or intend to, address, weaknesses.)

Be able to answer how you handled (or would handle) a difficult co-worker or angry patient, family member, or physician.

Be able to answer the question "Why do you want to work here" (sounds like you have that one down cold, but be as specific as possible.)

Smile, shake their hand warmly and firmly, take a deep breath, let your personality shine, and try to demonstrate your enthusiasm, and that you are a TEAM player.

Dress tastefully and appropriately.

Thank them for the opportunity to be interviewed.

Good luck, and know that even if you don't get this position, it is a wonderful opportunity to gain interview skills.

I interview last month with the University for DNP school. I also toured the hospital and met with some of the staff there and found that everyone was extremely kind. Just be personable! You sound passionate about your wanting to have a career there so show them that.

Best of luck! Let us know what you find out!
