Got a call to interview...

Published

.... for a position I'm no longer interested in. It was for a dialysis tech position that I'd applied for over a month ago. I actually just accepted a LPN position so I'm really not interested in the tech position. Here's my question tho, I also applied for a surg tech position at this same facility as the dialysis position which I would jump at the chance to interview for in a heartbeat. Do I call the recruiter back and let her know that I'm no longer interested in the tech position or not return the message at all? I don't want to burn any bridges by not at least returning the call to say "thanks but no thanks". What do I say? "Thank you but I've accepted another offer, but I would still like to be considered for the surgical tech position"?

On a different note, I finally got a job!! Kinda Yay sort of. It's in a long term care facility, which I didn't want to go back to and it's full time (1.0 FTEs) nocs which I'm kinda dreading... I haven't worked nocs in about 4 years and would really prefer a .8 or .9 position BUT I have been unemployed for 7 months and my unemployment benefits just ran out last week so like they say "beggers can't be choosers". And although I dread full time nights the shift will work out better with my husband's insane work schedule and our kids' school schedules. When he's working out of town I will be home in time to take the kids to school and will be able to pick them up everyday after school. And on days when they half day I won't have to take a vacation day or try and make arrangements for them. And with summer coming up soon (I hope) I'll be home during the day so they can attend summer school and be able to go to the pool everyday, where as last year they didn't have a ride to either unless I had the day off. And most importantly, it's a pay check, I won't have to constantly worry about which bills to pay and which bills to put off for a couple weeks! I start my orientation on Tuesday, after 7 long months I can finally wear a pair of scrubs again!

Hmm that's a tough one. What I would do is this...Contact her back and say thank you so much for getting back to me. I recently accepted a position in XYZ however my heart is really in XYZ field. Is it possible to keep me in mind when the XYZ position is available? Then ask if you can follow up with her in 4-6 months then be sure to do so.
