Got some of my books...

Nursing Students General Students

I got six of the 16 books needed for the LPN program yesterday. The bookstore is out of the other books until Tues. Anyway, I'm such a dork! I started scanning the Med/Surg book already and I can totally see why this is usually the most difficult clinical rotation!

I'm going to begin really reading through the nursing fundamentals book, because I think that's the one for Nur 101.

Sorry, just wanted to share my excitement. It makes it even more of a reality now. I've worked so hard to get to this point...now for the real work

:chair: :D

Add me to the dork list. Did you buy all new books? Don't you think your nursing books should be new? I don't want someone else's highlighting in books I'm going to keep forever. Sounds like you all got great deals. I purchased 11 new books and it cost me nearly $400. I bought them off campus so I still saved off the campus prices but I'm not sure I got deals as good as the ones you guys are describing.

So far I've limited my reading to the Fundamentals book. I'm afraid to open up the pharm book  The RNotes pocket guide is pretty cool. I'm just another dork.

Specializes in ICU, psych, corrections.

Pharm was the FIRST book I opened up...by far, my favorite class (except when we studied cardiac drugs...then my eyes just glazed over). I HATED Fundamentals...so much common sense, but so much theory to learn. Assessment was my most difficult class (along with everyone else in the program) and although I enjoyed it, I received a low B in that class as opposed to A's in my other ones.

I bought all new books only because we used all new editions that were unavailable used. That sucked! Total cost = $623, which was before uniforms, shoes, steth, penlight, bandage scissors, BP cuff, and other misc. items had to be bought. And this semester won't be much better....2nd semester books are running me around $300 and that was with buying the 5th edition instead of the 6th edition of one of the books. For 4 stinking books. Oh well.....I will be able to pay it all off now that I will actually have a good paying job (I'm still in disbelief that they are going to give me, a first year student, $13-14 an hour to work as a tech). This semester's tuition will be able to be paid, thank God.

Why, oh why, are these books so friggin' expensive? I think the only books that were worse were my anatomy books....$225 for ONE class...ouch!!!

You need 16 books!!! Most students here only have 1 or 2 recommended books at the most here because they cost so much.

Those are all the books we'll need for the entire program. Its expensive but I won't have to worry about it for the duration of the program. Plus...I may have time to read ahead for the next semester and prepare for those courses lol (ok, maybe during the semester breaks;)
