Has any one attended Gordon College all four years? I was considering Gordon as one of my school choices since my time for filling out college applications is coming up soon. I would just really love some input from Alumi of Gordon/ Students. How is the nursing program there? I heard it was really wonderful!
Thanks!!!!!
I'm not certain but I believe you can take nursing classes while finishing your gen ed classes assuming you've been admitted to the program. I think they just strongly recommend you have the gen ed done because the nursing classes are so challenging. I'm applying for Fall 09 admission so I can have as much out of the way as possible. I think having your prereqs done makes you a more competitive applicant as well. Hope that helps!
Hi everyone,I am also planning to apply to the nursing program at Gordon, but I have a couple of questions about the application process that I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me out with. I was originally planning to apply for admission for next fall (08); however, after discovering that the deadline is Feb. 1 and having completed only a couple of the pre-reqs this fall (since I just started), I assume I should wait until more of the core classes are done before applying. Am I right or could I go ahead and apply for fall admission anyway and have a chance of getting in? (I am going to take another 13 credits this spring, and then the rest either in the summer or next fall)
Also, it says on their website that it is recommended that all core classes are completed before beginning the nursing program. Does that mean that one may start the nursing courses BEFORE being done with the pre-reqs? I understand why they recommend against it, but would just like to know if it is actually possible because I always thought one has to be finished with the core before starting the nursing courses.
Thanks for any clarification!
i agree with Katie, you will look like a better applicant if your pre-reqs are done but it is not a requirement. a classmate of mine has taken her history and human growth & development while in the program. it has been challenging for her but she is making it. so, it is possible. you can also take some of the pre-reqs over the summer semesters while in the program. but i would at least have my core sciences out of the way. keep in mind that while in the program, you eat, breathe, and sleep nursing; to throw something else in the mix (work, family, extra class) can have severe consequences if it is not handled (juggled ) carefully.
best of luck to you
Thanks for your input. I totally agree with both of you in that it is smarter to wait until all the core classes are done before starting the program. I'm just so impatient to eventually start working because for the past three years I've kind of been forced to stay at home with my two daughters (don't get me wrong, I love my babies, but I'm not the stay-at-home mom type). Hopefully I'll be able to go to school this summer to finish up the pre-reqs; if not, I'll just apply for spring 09 instead.
Have a great holiday!

You will have a better chance of getting accepted to the nursing program if you have all of your pre-reqs out of the way, however; the important thing is to apply early. I know of some people who applied right at the deadline and did not get in even though their gpas and other things were higher than some of the applicants that applied early. Just some advice. Its is smarter to wait untill your done with your classes so you can devote most of your time to your nursing classes. Good Luck
