Goodwin college

U.S.A. Connecticut

How are you doing guys. Happy Newyear to everyone!

I am researching about schools in connecticut.I used to live in Massachussets and Currently I am living in downsouth and I have finished all my prereq's except micro and am planning to move back upnorth and I am reasearching on nursing schools upnorth. Since admission and graduation requirement plus grading policy are vital criteria to consider in choosing school, i based my reaearch on those criterias.

I already applied to the CT communuty college system'a RN program for fall 2009. Goodwin college is also one of the schools I am also trying to add to my application but when I was reading on there website, I realized that they have this -

"A student is not considered a graduate until (s)he scores at least

"103" on the National League for Nursing Exit Exam. The exam may be attempted twice. If the student is not successful (s)he must

work with faculty and achieve an 80 percent on three (3) practice National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) exams. These students

may then re-attempt the exam twice. If they still do not achieve the desired score, they will have failed out of the program.

This seems to be the requirement we have to meet at the end of program. What surprise me though, after all those works and rigorous five semseters,if any student fails to score the required scores, that means , the student failed out and he/she will not be graduating.Anyway what do you think, I am thinking that condition is kind of too harsh. What do u think.

My research also had shown that there are more options for nursing school in Mass, NY, than CT. I do not want to move to NY because commuting can be a very hard one.

Overall I will like to apply to any of the three states which will offer me the mobility and different options to complete my nursing education, eventhough if I start with LPN, i don't mind.

Wow, LPN on CT are very expensive except of state technical schools that can be very hard to get into.

Thanks, any advice will be gretly appreciated.:nuke:

goodwin bashing.......... awesome! i just graduated from their nsg program. they had several kinks to work out but they have done so remarkably well! ALL THE NSG TEACHERS AND STAFF ARE FIRST RATE! if someone did not pass, it is not the fault of the faculty. it is true, u must pass exit exam, but by that point if u do not pass, again, not faculty's fault. i studied so much for that exit exam that when it was time to take nclex, i did very little studying. and yes i passed first time.......... my classes pass rate is 97% last i heard. so please do your homework before your fingers fly over the keyboard. thanks...........

Yeah I agree...... I had asked about "should I take an outside NCLEX course", and they said "No we give you every tool you need to pass" and so far I have found that to be true. Congrats!! Did you find a job yet?

thx yes i am one of the lucky few. i count my blessings everyday. :) btw, i am making $30 per hr............ YEAH!

YIPEE!! Are you at a hospital?

nope! NONE of the hospitals are hiring............ school nurse

I just withdrew from Goodwin, they are EXTREMELy expensive, taking 3 classes a semester will run u about $6,000 and it keeps going up thanks to their new building that they have to pay off or maintain. And they also work on a "point system", its their way of getting all the money out of you they can. If you want to graduate from Goodwin, you can pretty much guarantee you have to take all your classes there, bc each class gives you points and you have to have a certain amount of points at the end to get into the nursing program, the better your grades are, the more points you get, same works for when you take the state nursing test. Its all a gimick i realised. I looked into CapitalCC and their program is shorter, less classes, almost an AMAZING $1,000 cheaper a class and there isn't an extremely long wait. I was told if i enrolled for Spring 2010 that i could graduate fall 2011 or spring 2012, but I already have 20 credits in sciences and other required classes, that i took at Goodwin and have a pretty penny of debt from! If youre lucky enough to have your parents pay for your school then i'd say try goodwin, the staff is very nice.

I agree it is way expensive but the teachers are great. I know people that got in acing the NLN (10points) and interview (12 points) and community service (2 or 3 don't remember) and one class at Goodwin. But you cant walk in with zero classes and move right into nursing.

Goodwin def. needs to give students more clinical hours/time. 2 days a wk, preferably one right after the other would best emulate a true RN working her shifts. I graduated from there last Dec. 08 and find that is what was lacking when I got into the real working world.

So for the Goodwin College Grads, have you found it hard to find a job?? And how long is the entire program?

just wanted to say i know 2 ladies that graduated from Goodwin recently and both said they were only able to find jobs at the rehab/LTC facility that i work. apparenlty its harder to get jobs in hospitals, im hearing you need to know people. I thankfully know people at hartford hosp. hopefully that will help me once i graduate!

I just graduated from Goodwin and start my first RN job on Monday!! I passed the Nclex in 75 questions and felt Goodwin prepared me well.

Where did you get a job?
