GOOD Shoes

Published

okay, everyone, i want a list of good shoes to order, for both, nursing as well as casual wear.

i have plantar fasciitis, went to the podiatrist and ordered orthotics. they have made my feet feel much better. but, i am still getting up with aches and pains, and at times, such as today, when i had to run from one building to another to tend to a patient that passed out in the heat in front of one of our buildings, my feet are aching!!!

i do plan to revisit the podiatrist at my job in about two weeks, but i am getting some serious money together to order some good shoes and want suggestions. i have some of the name brands that people have mentioned from my other posts, but want to compile (may be a typo-sorry) the list and start searching. it does not seem that there is a decent shoe store in my immediate area to visit and shop. i have no problems ordering on line or getting catalogs.

please help this nurse before i quit!

desperate and aching! (in spite of my pain, i thank you all in advance for responses)

Glad you found the website. In NJ Foot Solutions stores sell the MBT and other fitted shoes. These shoes are very specific to your foot. My advise is to find them in your state and not order off line unless absolutely necessary. I was fitted for the shoe, have med-hi arch and wide foot (thanks dad). The shoes have never hurt, they fit perfectly, they have not stretched, and have held up well. Like I said the break in period would probably be the worst. I didn't follow directions and the following day following a 13 hour shift I felt every muscle possible in my abd, butt and thighs. (Good work out!) After that, everything was good. I have also seen the spring heeled shoes....a fellow nurse who has OA wears them, they were good for her for about 2 years. She says they feel good, they look awkward to me. Whatever, works for you. Oh, $245-265 is about right. I figure I was spending $60.00 per week in co pays for chiropractor-I bought them last fall. They were more than worth the price.

I still go with my Danskos! Love them!

My feet don't hurt after a 13+ hour shift, and they make plenty of them for casual wear as well. I have high arches as well, and my feet used to just ache and ache when I wore NurseMates.

I DEFINITELY agree with jlsRN, you need to try on the shoes you are thinking of buying. For example, with Danskos, the sizing is very important. You don't buy them to an exact fit of your foot, they are designed to be worn with at least a fingerbreadth of "extra" in the back of the clog. (these are the professional clog version, with the closed heel)

Personally, the size recommended to me was a 38, they come in European sizing, but I felt much more comfortable in a 40. That would equal a size 10 in women's shoes, and I wear an 8 or 8 1/2!

Dankos should be worn a couple hours at a time as well to start with. They don't necessarily feel "comfy" when you first put them on, but ahhhhh... they sure do feel great as the day wears on!

HTH! :)

I did find a location for MBT and it is not far from my job. I plan to stop there on payday and see what they have. Purchasing specialized shoes is very new to me, so, I can understand suggesting to physically try them on for myself. If I am going to spend that amount of money, they had BETTER feel like air!
