Good CRNA applicant?

Just seeing what everyone thought of my profile to get into CRNA school for Fall 2012/Spring 2013:

Experience: 2 years psychiatric (1 year full time, 1 year PRN), 1 Year MICU, Will have 18 months CVICU experience in large teaching hospital by start of program

GPA: 3.74 in all Undergrad Nursing and Non-nursing Courses

GRE: Will take September 29, 2011 (new revised test)

Certs: ACLS, BLS, PALS, will take CCRN in Winter 2011

Shadowed Surgeon/MDA for a day in Cardiothoracic OR

Access to good recommendation letters

Your stats look good. It will also depend on what you will get on GRE (if you apply to a school that requires GRE).

Thanks for the input. How do you think schools will compare applicant's GRE scores now that they will be receiving old and revised GRE scores?

The scores may be reported in the same scale. If that's the case the comparison will be pretty straightforward. Otherwise, they will have score conversion charts. The same was true when comparing paper-based and computer-based versions of some tests.

That sounds good. I am nervous about being one of the first waves of people that will be taking the revised GRE (being the "guinea pig"). It was cheaper to take the new test, however. I guess I will just have to see how things go. Thanks again for the info!

Stats look good. Just make sure the program you apply to doesn't require 2 years of critical care experience. I applied to a program that recommended at least 2 years of critical care experience and would also consider acute care experience. I had only had 1 yr of critical care experience at the time, but 5 in the ER. Well the rejection letter came and stated I was rejected because I would not have two years of critical experience by the time the program started.

Thanks for the input, and sorry to hear about your misfortune. I wish there was a more uniformed/standardized approach to things because it's kind of confusing getting straight what each individual program requires for admission, and it can also dramatically limit your prospects as well. But anyway, good luck and hopefully you can get in somewhere soon.

No worries. I was accepted into my first choice program and start fall 2012

UPDATE: I just took the GRE and at the end of the test it said my score would fall somewhere between:

Verbal 530-630

Quantitative 650-750

Total would be between 1180-1380.

How does this sound to people? Your advice is wanted and much appreciated.

Sounds like a good score to me. Better than mine. Just keep in mind every school is different as far as gre scores go. For instance they did not weigh that heavily in their decision, just that you had a decent score.

I know what you mean. I am just hoping it is something that stands out a little bit and gets me to the interview phase (which is what seems to be the main arena for most schools in regards to who they accept/reject). At this point I am only applying to 1, maybe 2 schools and just seeing how things play out. This is a huge weight off my shoulders though, that's for sure.
