Gonzaga RN-MSN FNP students Fall 2013

I am starting Gonzaga's RN-MSN FNP program in September :) and was wondering if there are any other student's starting this program? I am hoping to "meet" some of my fellow classmates. Also, I would love to get any insight or advice from graduates or current students. Thanks!

Does the program award BSN degree or only MSN?

Thank you

I've been looking into this program. My major concern is finding my own preceptors. I'm new to the Wa area, so I do not have any connections. Any advice? Do you have yours lined up?

Thank you!

We do have to find our own preceptors but I don't believe there are any clinicals until the end of the bridge portion. I do not have "official" preceptors arranged but have many connections with NP's and MD's so I am hoping this wont be too much of an issue. I also work with a recent FNP grad from Gonzaga's program and will be able to use him as a guide to where I can look for willing preceptors. I think getting to know local NP's and MD's in your area and finding out if they are willing to take on students early on in the program is key.

Try asking the admissions people if they have more information on local preceptors available. I live in Oregon so I don't have any info on WA sites. If you decide to start the program, I'm sure you will "meet" other WA students who can share information on preceptors with you. Hope this helps! Good luck :)

I'm in the PMH-NP program at Gonzaga right now. Good luck! I found my fellow students to be a great resource for all kinds of things. I have enjoyed the weekend visits to the school, hope you will as well. Luckily for me I have a great cohort to work with in the program and always look forward to weekends at school.

PM me for more information.

Thanks algebra_demystified! I am not able to PM yet but will definitely take you up on that as soon as I can. I am both excited and nervous to start this program. Did you have to do the RN to MSN bridge portion? If so, did you find any of the bridge courses to be especially challenging? Good luck to you as you finish the program!

Thanks everyone for the advice!! I will definitely be searching ahead of time!

I am looking to apply for FNP program spring 2014. I search but couldn't find accreditation for the state of Maryland. I spoke with a student coordinator who assure me that they are recognize by Maryland and I wouldn't have any problem to sit for the boards once I'm done. IA part of me doesn't trust what he say..,base on how he answered my questions. I would like to hear from any student who share my concerns or who resides in Maryland.

Thanks in-advance for your guidance.

I'm looking into Gonzaga's online psych mental health np program, and am also concerned about finding preceptors. Anyone have any personal experience with the program? I've heard some pretty scary stories from other schools about student's progression through online programs being delayed for lack of a clinical placement. I called the admissions counselor for advice, and he seemed surprised that this is ever an issue for someone living in a major city. When I asked if the school can provide a list of practitioners who have been Gonzaga preceptors in the past, he said this would probably be a breach of confdentiality under FERPA. I rather doubt this, but perhaps the school has an agreement with preceptors to keep their info private. I'm fairly optimistic that if I start early, I can find preceptors--but I've been told to line things up very early to avoid problems.
