  2. Be patient. I didn't hear until the week before the first cohort started. They are getting slammed with applications. The campus was closed during thanksgiving week, so that's minus a week. I waited over 6 weeks. Trust me, I know it's hard.
  3. I dont think you can honestly prepare to begin classes. I reviewed a book here and there and really, it was a waste. Probably more so for the excitement. There is so much going on in each class and no matter how much you think you already know...you will learn more! So relax while you can:) Good luck on your new adventure!
  4. School loans cover this program.
  5. Everything will be ok. Take loans. There is always the option for loan forgiveness. Some private employers pitch in a little....just need to negotiate. I'm 100% loans, plus some. Even with my one semester of gi bill. I'm thinking national guard or something too. Who knows. But it's worth it for me.
  6. Full time. Even after work, there are some nights I am up until midnight studying or working on assignments. Honestly, I feel like this has become my entire life. If I have down time at work; I am reading. On my days off, this is all I am doing with any household chores or errands in between. 30-40hrs is definitely accurate, but again, its what you put into it. You can definitely see those students who are not putting as much time in. I think it also helps if you have lots of support. Its just me and my girls. I have thought about relocating to be closer to family so I can lean on them for help with things. The program itself is user friendly. Its manageable, you just have to make sacrifices.
  7. Right now I am taking research, health promotion and adv patho. Research is quizzes and analyzing specific portions of research articles through written papers. Class is open discussion forum guided by the professor. Quizzes and that weeks chapters are reviewed and discussed. Health promotion is written papers, discussion board and presentations weekly. Class reviews that weeks info and we discuss things in an open forum. There is a continuous project based on a behavioral change. An overview paper is due at the end. You present and update weekly. Adv patho is rough. Each week is a new system. There is a ton of reading! Case assignments each week that are presented. A quiz and test weekly. Each class may slightly differ on the way things are presented such as case studies based on teacher preference. Every class is set up the same. Class times are scheduled. There is pretty much an option for each day of the week. Definitely workable around your schedule. Each class you use adobe meet by logging in on computer, using webcam and calling in. Simmons offers interactive webinars that demonstrate everything.
  8. I am apart of the first online cohort @ Simmons. It has been a great experience so far with wonderful support all the way around. I am a single mother to a 3 and 7 year old. I have to work full time....3 12's. I recently moved to a new state and lack any type of support. I can not tell you how time consuming this program is. There is not a day that I am not studying. It is a huge commitment you want and DO make...despite the sacrifices you and your loved ones have to make. I am sure all programs are challenging. I believe its all about what the person truly wants. I can only image how things will be once clinicals begin. The one thing I can say about Simmons is the dedicated support they provide to their students. I think this alone speaks tremendously. Just talking to other schools admin reps, there was a distinct difference I felt between several schools. Definitely talk and check around what feels best for you! Good luck!
  9. I will be starting at Simmons next week for their full time program. I am a single mom and need to work full time, so finding a school online with a good reputation was my main focus. I feel like I was constantly reviewing the same programs over and over and none of them seemed to be really what I was looking for. I came across Simmons College by chance. Its a private college out of Boston. Great reputation and a long standing brick and mortar FNP program with a consistent 100% pass rate (national average is about 88%). I personally chose this school for 2 other main reasons. 1. NO GRE. I am not a believer such an exam should qualify or disqualify me for pursuing my goals and education. 2. Clinical placements. It seems so many schools (online and traditional) do not set up clinical placements. Simmons College does not guarantee placement, but they do have a Clinical Placement Team. This is all they do. They have several resources and already set up preceptors for areas across the country. You may have to drive up to 2hrs each way, but hey.....thats worth it! And if you have a place/person in particular they encourage you to vocalized this to the team so they can work with you in setting this up. This school has an awesome support staff. They are quick to respond with any questions or issues. They provide an abundance of days/times for synchronized online tutorials with time for Q&A. Overall, I am very impressed with this schools support system. This is such a huge advantage while enrolled in an online program. I did not have anything like this with my RN-BSN online program with a well known college. I am excited to see what the programs has to offer!
  10. I received my acceptance letter Friday. My fingers are crossed for you for the next term! Good luck!
  11. My BSN was 3.8 and my ADN was much lower. I still have not heard anything back yet and classes begin oct 15 for the next up coming cohort.
