I just wanted to start a thread for everyone applying to GWC this month so we can answer each other's questions, share our points, and check status' if we wind up on the alternate list.

How many of you are attempting to apply for a nursing program for the second time or more?

I've been wondering that. Also I want to know how many people they put on their alternate list?

I calculated about 80 points. Do any of you know if they are very strict with the verification of the volunteer letter?

well I got the letter on official letterhead and all but I noticed after I turned it in that my employer did not state so much that I had direct patient care, but my job position did. she only put more of a generalized statement about what I did. I'm nervous that the nursing committee will not accept it :( I should've reviewed it better...

do you guys know what the safe zone of points is for people who have been accepted in the past?

@jbshon ahh that's difficult. unfortunately, i don't know how strict they are on that, but maybe you could call the Nursing Department/email/or go in person and ask what they think you should do in this situation just to make sure you would get points for that. Also I would ask your employer to revise the letter just in case they are willing to accept an updated form. I worked at a PT office for a year, working with patients probably about 90% of the time, and when i asked for the letter, pretty much all of the listed duties were all front office tasks like scheduling...answering calls, so I had to get that revised.

And from a past, but recent forum on GWC, I think someone said around 67 + ?

I just asked my supervisor to send me a new one, so hopefully the nursing dept. will accept it!

My employment verification letter was also pretty generic in listing my direct patient care, even though it was 100% of the job. HR said they use that as the standard letter they send, when I questioned it. So to be on the safer side (hopefully) I attached a copy of my work certifications too.

Did anyone apply anywhere else this round, or do you plan to?

that's smart. hopefully the nursing committee will be lenient and accept them :)

i applied to CSUN & CSULB and about 5 CCs in Southern California.
