Golden West College ADN Fall 2022

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hello everyone,

I am creating this forum so other pre-nursing students can gather and share helpful information regarding the application process, specifically for GWC's Fall 2022 entry. Some information I received by (staff removed name) (GWC counselor) today is that GWC's nursing program will accept the highest science grade regardless of repeats/remediation. I was worried because I took Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology all the way back in 2012-2013 when I was first starting college, and I failed a few times ? thankfully, previous failing grades will not impact your eligibility in receiving the highest points in the multi-criteria (just get those A's ?).

Additionally, she informed me that if science grades are older than the recency requirement (e.g. GWC has a 7 year recency), then schools will not consider these past grades (even if you failed, like in my case) in the application process.

This was a HUGE sigh of relief and hopefully it eases anyone else who might be in a similar situation.

p.s. (staff removed name) was referred to me by one of GWC's nursing professors. She did inform me that in the past, GWC used to average the science grades, but this is currently NOT the case (hopefully they don't change anything in the upcoming months).

Best of luck to anyone applying this cycle! ?

Cool! Great to know.

If I apply there this upcoming cycle (April), I would be applying with about 80 - 84 points. Not entirely too sure yet

Hi!

I will apply for Fall 2022 too. I also applied for Saddleback, hopefully get accepted to GWC. I am currently doing my CNA cert, but I don't think I will be able to finish prior to the application deadline.

Good luck everyone! ?

Hey @axel_123 ! 80-84 points is really good! I heard the cut off is somewhere around there, so you have a good chance of getting accepted. Are you applying to to other schools? I still have to take the TEAS, so I won't know till a couple months how many pts. I'll have total. Right now I have 64 without it ?

Hey @LiamB  ? I wanted to apply to saddleback too but saw that I needed work experience. I barely got my CNA license this January and there was no way I was gonna finish studying for the TEAS and get hired somewhere at the same time. Hopefully we both get accepted later on at GWC! Have you taken the TEAS yet?

Yes, I finished with the TEAS last year. I'm glad that I don't have to worry about that test any longer ?. For now, I just have to wait for the application to open. I will apply with 80 for Saddleback and 87 for Golden West. You definitely gonna make it into GWC since you already have 64pts without the TEAS!

Good luck! ?

Regarding AP scores, does anyone know which format is acceptable to submit as supporting documentation? For me, Ill be using my AP English scores to cover for the Eng G100.

I worry because I ordered my AP scores from collegeboard last year (they were ARCHIVED, because theyre older than 4 years) and got a complete piece of paper with their company's letter head, addressing me along with two separate and very simple looking slips of papers that contained all my archived AP scores. It took like 2 months for them to arrive but I was hoping that for this application, GWC doesn't require official AP scores to be sent directly to the office in order to cover courses because that's time that is obviously not available with the application deadline. I swear college board takes FOREVER to send scores.

Other schools I have applied to like SAC and Cerritos, were fine with me scanning what college board sent me as a PDF and use it as supporting documentation. They said I would only need to send official scores directly to admissions and records **IF** I was accepted, but it wasn't clear to me which format GWC wanted for AP scores.

Also, a separate question,

does any one know if the critical thinking course (G110) might be covered if you have  bachelors already? The equivalency course they provided only provided equivalents for other community colleges but the bachelors I have is from UC Irvine. Thanks in advance ?

Hi everyone! I just have a quick question. FOr the TEAS test. Are they only accepting first result? and does it expire?

Good luck to anyone that is also applying!

If anyone doesn’t mind, would y’all share you scores that you are applying with? Hopefully, this will allow us to get a gauge of where students are at for this upcoming cycle!

I will personally be applying with 79 points.

GWC only accepts the first passing score of 62% or higher of version 6 ATI TEAS. Scores don't expire unless a school is requiring a newer version of the ATI TEAS Test.

@Adrian Cuevas I would guess that GWC would require official scores sent to them once you are accepted, and will be fine with the documentation you have so far ?

And regarding you second question, if you have sent over your UCI transcript to GWC, your courses should have been evaluated and some of those courses will have equivalencies to GWC courses (they will be in your Unofficial Transcripts on MyCoast). However, if you have a BA/BS, I am sure they will waive your course if you have taken a similar Critical English course at UCI. I wouldn't worry!

@ZottingStudent I still have to take the TEAS next week so my final score is still pending?

@LiamB Hi! Where are you taking your CNA classes? I have been looking around for additional points just in case I do not get in this year. Thank you!
