Going Back to SCHOOL

I want to go back to school, I have to get my BSN, and eventually my FNP. I so far have two schools in mind, University of Phoenix and Stanislaus State. Plus side about UOP is small classrooms, seems like a learning environment a full time working mom can actually do, and is very close to my house, no commute!!!!. Down side, it is expensive private school. Plus side about Stanislaus State, less expensive, has a good reputation, but has a 45 commute from my home. I would also say it is costly but not as much as UOP, seems more intense. I have talked to some nurses who I work with who went to UOP and one who went to Stanislaus State, the one from Stanislaus State dropped out of school for some time and then returned which was a little alarming to me. The ones from UOP seems happy but are in debit up to their eyes balls with student loans, looking for opinions and thoughts Thanks!

Yay to you wanting to go back to school! Well, you already put your pros and cons on the table, now it's up to you to decide which is more important and which is more of a no-no. Commute or not to commute much? Is there a lot of traffic?

If they're both similar in costs, would the gas prices throw one or the other school to make it more expensive? What kind of loans can you get (and what's the interest rates)?

Whatever you ultimately decide, be proud that you, as a working mom, are heading back to school. Kudos to you. :)

I returned to school a few years ago and completed my BSN now I am completing my MSN and graduating this December. Look into CSU Dominguez Hills, classes are online, it is a state supported school and since you are in the Central Valley, the ability to apply for Federal Nursing Scholarship program would be of benefit to you as this area is considered a low socioeconomic area. Full time graduate fee is $3K/semester a lot less than UOP. And undergraduate is less than graduate. You may want to look into it.
