I'm not sure of your question, but I have also heard that eventually it will be required to have a BSN. However, it will be a difficult move and some of our instructors think that it is probably going to be very difficult just because there aren't enough BSN nurses to fill the positions. Many hospitals prefer BSNs and hire a certain % of each. Some hospitals are moving towards only hiring BSN's but I do not think this is common. I think the main reason that I like the idea of BSN nurses is that it shows that nurses are a bachelors level profession. Every other profession requires a bachelor degree. This would just give nursing more respect (that we deserve). I am a soon to be ADN graduate so I am all for ADN nursing. It has allowed me to complete my nursing education economically and I feel I got a great education. I just think for nursing as a whole, the BSN would give nurses more credit for all they go through to get that RN!

i am a nursing student in california. i haven't heard yet that hospitals are moving to bsns. bsns in california give you more managerial positions, like being charge nurse. i know that the va hospital here doesn't take anything less than a bsn.

If you look back over the years many people have stated that the BSN will be required. Not saying it won't happen eventually, but it will probably still be quite a few years before it is mandated.

I agree and think its like the "phasing out of LPNs" that has been going on for over 20 years, lol. I have heard however that hospitals that want magnet status are requiring BSNs. Continuing in school isn't a bad idea in any event. I'm going to do it largely because I want to get my MSN eventually so I can teach.
