It has been my experience in the Oncology setting that patient's and their families are drawn closer to God through various religious expressions when certain death is the prognosis and is imminent.
Why is that?

Thanks for all the responses. I think we all agree that Faith is important. What grieves me most is when people of various persuasions start thumping their chest boosting that they have all the answers and do so at the detriment of others. These are the people I avoid if at all possible.
"But now abide faith, hope, love, these three." (1st Corinthians 13:13).

CCU NRS, don't be troubed by the ones who fall away quickly... perhaps they weren't ready yet.
When thy are, they will know it, and their faith will blossom.
Itwill overcome even the harshest trials. Oh, a few petals may fall away here and there, but they will be replaced by even sturdier, stronger ones.
There is a scripture verse about the seed ... how some falls by the wayside... some falls on hard, dry, soil... some falls on shallow soil and while it sprouts,it is quickly uprooted....
.... and in some people it takes hold and produces an abundant crop.
Each in their own time.

Great Movie! But are you "Bona Fide?"
:)
Not sure if I am "Bona Fide" but I am the "paterfamilias!!!"
Soggy Bottom Boys
I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow
(chorus) In constant sorrow through his days
I am a man of constant sorrow
I've seen trouble all my day.
I bid farewell to old Kentucky
The place where I was born and raised.
(chorus) The place where he was born and raised
For six long years I've been in trouble
No pleasures here on earth I found
For in this world I'm bound to ramble
I have no friends to help me now.
(chorus) He has no friends to help him now
It's fare thee well my old lover
I never expect to see you again
For I'm bound to ride that northern railroad
Perhaps I'll die upon this train.
(chorus) Perhaps he'll die upon this train.
You can bury me in some deep valley
For many years where I may lay
Then you may learn to love another
While I am sleeping in my grave.
(chorus) While he is sleeping in his grave.
Maybe your friends think I'm just a stranger
My face you'll never see no more.
But there is one promise that is given
I'll meet you on God's golden shore.
(chorus) He'll meet you on God's golden shore

Anybody watching Joan of Arcadia? For people who have a spiritual sense, this is one awesome show.
Maybe it needs a thread of its own....
Anyway, it is an expression of the workings of God in everyday life, with everyday people, just as if God were one of us......
Love that song, just love it.
Also, about why some spell God without the "o"--it is a respectful thing that goes way, way back, when to truly respect God, you should not say or write His actual name.
