Like many of you here, I am not happy with my weight gain.....and I have not even started the nursing program yet. I am planning on doing something about it. I have seen another post with regards to weight loss and motivation, just wanted to start another one. I will be starting a regiment immediately to hopefully drop those lbs and extend my life. If anyone is wanting/willing to join me....chime in. I am working on a spreadsheet to track weight loss/gain and lbs to go for my goal. I am happy to keep track of the information for others and could even post here if we want or by email. I can assign "new names" for everyone on the spreadsheet so it can remain a little more confidential if people have issues with having their weight information out here. I am also thinking of trying to find some sort of prize for the most significant change.
Let me know if you are interested and if there is anything else you would like to see. I am doing this with or without you, but am happy to motivate and "suffer" along with others :)
Feel free to respond here with input/suggestions/motivation.

Not gunna lie... Im a little nervous about starting school and gaining weight. I start next month and I cant help but feel a tad worried that Im going to slowly add on those lbs once my schedule gets going. Is it pretty much a known that this happens? I have read that most women gain due to eating fast food on their breaks or in between lunch at school so it creeps up...but if I am a healthy person who always packs their lunch and tries to work out a few days a week wouldnt that be okay?
I know I have NO idea what Im getting into so Id like feedback from those of you who have been through this situation. Luckily my bf is letting me quit my job and focus on school once I start.. Im thinking if anything the extra time will help me focus on school and get in better shape.. ANy thoughts?
I've been trying to change my eating habits and essentially Lifestyle for the last few weeks and have managed to lose 13 lbs. I've been using www.sparkpeople.com. It's 100% FREE!!! There is a Nutrition Tracker and Fitness Tracker. You can also track several different goals on there and find recipes. There are SOOO many things you can do with it! If you join feel free to look me up, my userid is nkochrn.
Thanks for this idea! The website is amazing!

I have the same dilemma as you. I start NS in the fall also but I feel that if you pack your own lunch, monitor the amount of calories to intake and try to work out a few times a week you'll be fine. My friends in NS who have gained weight, from what I can see, are always unprepared. They never plan their meals ahead so whenever they have breaks they dash over to the 7-11 across the street to grab some junk food. And when they're not studying they don't bother to go to the gym because they'd rather go online or go party because they haven't in a while.
Me, I'm planning on packing my own lunch and going to the gym daily before class. It'll be hard but if I manage my time I think I'll be fine. I think you'll be fine too :)
I've generally been at a healthy weight most of my life but had some issues shedding weight over the year when i was struggling with stress and then pregnancies. Even though I exercised regularly and ate healthfully, it seemed like my weight was stuck at a certain number. I found, believe it or not, doing regular kundalini yoga and meditation (daily I mean) and light aerobic weight training (i.e. Jillian Michaels) and just upping my vegetable intake has helped. I've lost 25 pounds and am back at my university weight. I'm a person who always eats healthy and ran half-marathons and still I couldn't lose weight. So when I recommend kundalini yoga and meditation - I really mean it! I think these things helped me calm down and helped me lose weight. I think the cortisol surge created by stress really mucks with women's weight.
Thanks annie :) Yah thats what I have heard as well.... I def think that with our routine of working out and packing a lunch and healthy snacks we will be good... We should keep in touch and motivate eachother with our progress!
Yes we should! I'm a little sad to see that not any recent Weight Loss threads are that active. Maybe we should start one
On another note I purchased a cute lunchbag to take with me to class, but I'm on the lookout for small containers to separate my lunch and my snacks (or else i'd eat them all in one sitting! ) Does anyone have any recommendations?
Also does anyone have recs for running shoes? I currently own a pair of asics but because I have a low arch and wide feet the sort of cut off circulation to my toes after running/jogging for so long.
an update on my weight loss goal. I have lost 47.2 pounds since Jan 2010. I have gone from a size 22 dress and tops to size 16. Used to wear uniform pants 3x now 1x. Hope to lose a total of 62 pounds to reach my goal. Have been doing weight watchers and working out at the Y. Alos bought a new bike and ride as often as I can, usually try to do at least 10 miles. Went to see my MD last week and got to stop my bp med. Take all my food to work and eat small meals or snacks as patient care allows. Feel better and in better shape than I have been for a long time.

congrats on your weight loss so far! only 14 more lbs to go!
annie-
I too have the same issue with shoes and Ive found that New Balances are the best. They have a wide shoe too and that'll help. I went to walmart and they have the best portable lunch cases EVER. Ones for soup/sandwiches etc...they are all separate so you wont eat in one sitting ahha :)

I just sabotaged my weight loss plan again in the past few days. Do not think the serious approach is yet there.
