Go to school in one state & get license from another state???

Published

Hi all, I'm just wondering, Can I go to nursing school in one state and get my RN license from another state? For example, I go to school in Florida and I move to Arizona before getting my license. I'm I eligible to sit for the NCLEX while I'm in AZ & get RN license from AZ? I know this is a kind of weird :rolleyes:situation, but this is possible for me due to my husband's job. If there's any one who can help me with this question please let me know.( I really don't know anything about this NCLEX or license procedure or how it works.) I'm still in the waiting list.:banghead:

Thank you in advance.

Done all the time. You have to meet the requirements to test in AZ which you can likely find on their BON website and if not, you can get it by contacting the BON directly.

I just did it - you can take the NCLEX in any state you wish and apply for licensure in any state you wish also. You just need to contact the state you wish to license in before you take the NCLEX, complete all the steps they require, and then when signing up for NCLEX you tell the testing company which state board of nursing they will be sending your test results too.

I went to nursing school in California and took the nursing boards in Nebraska. The process was simple. Follow newtothecrew advice. =)

Yes, you can do this. Makes sense to get your initial nursing license in the state you will be living in and working when your husband and you move. Good luck.

Simple, but at least with me it seemed to take a little longer for all the paperwork to go through. If you'd ask me two years ago, I could've told you all the steps, but more or less, whereever all your classmates write in "Florida" (which BON to send results to, etc.), you'll write "Arizona"

Yup, it's possible. I went to school in NJ, took my boards in NJ, but applied for licensure in VA.

Thank you all for responding. Now I know what to do if that happens to me. Thanks again and good luck to you all with your careers.

I am as well going to be moving out of state once I graduate in Nov 2011. They don't require you to go to the state itself to take the boards? You just have to fill out the state on the paper? Whew! What a relief!
