GN job offer email?

Published

I had an interview a couple weeks ago and it went really well! I just got an email today from a recruiter, one that I had never had contact with before, saying that they would like to offer me the job. All the email said was the start date and that I should keep her updated on my graduation status.

Is this normal? In my experience (what little I have), they usually call you and give you some information (salary, what shift you were hired for, etc.). Should I expect to hear from the manager or the recruiter by phone or am I expected to accept the job offer via email?

Sorry for my confusion, this way just seems really impersonal to me. She didn't even ask me to reply to her email with whether or not I would accept the offer.

It sounds to me as if the offer is contingent on you passing school. There are students who, at the final hour, don't make the cut and pass. I would respond if you are vaguely interested and let them know that you look forward to letting them know when your final grades are posted and you graduate.

I think then is when they will get down to the specifics. Congratulations!

I completely concur with the PP (enuf_already). Your email is an 'unofficial' offer that's probably preliminary and/or contingent on other technicalities (i.e., graduating, drug test, NCLEX, etc...)..hence, that's why she's asking to be kept updated on your status. Telling you the start date is also probably based on a timeline of pre-determined orientation dates for GNs and likely not necessarily a 'customized' start date decided just for you. I look at this as a positive because you have at least heard a reply, and it enlightens you to how your standing is with this organization...which are great things because so many applicants don't hear anything. You should expect a follow up with a more formal offer that details the salary and benefits with department and official job title. This is a courtesy email. I would reply back with your appreciation and interest in joining this organization...just so you can affirm to these recruiters your intentions. Also, it doesn't hurt to ask your questions either...if you want to know details....just ask...they've apparently already decided you are their pick. Congrats.

Just to be clear, the e-mail was from an unfamiliar recruiter in response to an interview. Not some random company.

My wife gets e-mails from people wanting to set up "appointments" (she does dog training) that are really just phishing expeditions to get her e-mail.

If it's the real deal, congratulations you soon-to-be-New-Grad!
