GN determined to pass NCLEX, need motivation??!?

Published

this site has been so helpful to me, not that i want anyone to struggle with the exam, it is in an odd way comforting to know it's not just me!!

i graduated in may 2006, happiest moment of my life was when my parents pinned me!!

i have had some family, personal issues that have kept me from "fully being focused" to attack this exam.

i am in need of some "motivation", i feel like my get up and go - got up and went?!?

anyone else feel this way?

i most recently sat for the boards, 1/18 and was unsuccessful.

i realized i had way too many books, they were a major distractor!! so i put just about all of my books in totes, and up in the attic!!

i currently have kaplan (on demand) and the accompanied book, exam cram, and lacharity.

i feel a lot less cluttered, was wondering if anyone else could direct me?

thank you in advance, i will not give up on my dream!!

god bless all of you,

I can relate to having too many sources. By the time I graduated in February, I had:

1. Saunders

2. ATI (a module, CD and online tests for each class)

3. Hurst

4. Success Series books for each class

5. Kaplan Trainer Questions

6. NCSBN

7. LaCharity's PD&A

and probably more that I'm leaving off. By the time I started my serious studying, I had already eliminated Saunders, ATI, and the Success Series. When I scheduled, I had exactly one month. The first few days of the month, I was at the Hurst Live Review. This was my second time attending the Live Review. After that, my plan was to do tons and tons of questions. But I kept realizing that I was lacking information as far as content. I rearranged my study plans. I signed up for the Hurst Online Review so that I could go through the content again (a third time) and take more notes. Then, I signed up for the NCSBN review. At first, I was doing a Hurst lecture and then going on NCSBN and reviewing the content for the same lecture. I did this for four or five days until I realized that I wouldn't have enough time to get through the NCSBN content (sooooo much). So I rearranged my plan AGAIN. I kept listening to the Hurst lectures until I got through them all. Then, I reviewed the content on NCSBN but ONLY for the first seven sections of NCLEX, not the 8th, Physiology. This is because I felt like that was my strong point after having listened to Marlene (Hurst) three times! And I did the QReview with Hurst as well. The last week, I had intended to do nothing but questions but, once again, that plan fell through. I did LOTS of LaCharity's book during the last week. Lots of NCSBN quizzes and reviewed lots of lab values and infection control.

Long story short (too late? ;) ) I had TOO many sources, narrowed them down, and STILL had a ton. However, I couldn't imagine myself not doing questions from NCSBN when the same people write NCLEX. And there was no way I wasn't doing LaCharity's book. And Hurst made learning fun--Aunt Marlene quotes are still ringing in my head. :lol2:

I took NCLEX yesterday so I guess you can wait til tomorrow to find out if any of my advice is valid. :D

Good luck to you. :redbeathe
